NFL’s Edwin Jackson Of Indianapolis Colts Killed By Suspected Drunk Driver

Indianapolis Colts player Edwin Jackson was killed Sunday when he was struck by a suspected drunk driver in Indiana.  Jackson was killed, along with another man, after a black Ford F-150 pickup struck both of them as they were standing on the side of a highway. Indiana police told the newspaper the incident took place in the early morning hours on Sunday, when the truck drove into the emergency shoulder where the men were standing near a stopped vehicle. “We were heartbroken to hear the news of Edwin Jackson’s passing,” the Colts said in a news release. “Edwin was loved by all in the Colts organization. We admired his outgoing personality, competitive spirit and hard-working mentality.”  Jackson was signed by the Colts in January 2016. He started eight games in 2016, making 66 tackles. Lakers Guard Lonzo Ball Out 2 More Games With MCL Sprain

Los Angeles Lakers rookie Lonzo Ball is expected to miss at least two additional games because of a left knee injury, according to head coach Luke Walton. The Lakers have officially ruled out Ball for a minimum of 10 games, Walton said Thursday. The team initially expected the 20-year-old to be out just three weeks. Walton said he hoped Ball would play during the road trip, which began Jan. 26 against Chicago. Ball has traveled with the team and received treatment for his injury.  Walton has stated that Ball will not return until he could participate in team practice. Ball injured his left leg during a 107-101 victory against the Dallas Mavericks on Jan. 13. He has missed eight straight games so far.  ...Read more

Vikings’ Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater’s Contract Status Unclear Due To Time Spent On PUP List

Minnesota Vikings quarterback Teddy Bridgewater could become a free agent during the 2018 signing period, a decision that will be left up to the NFL and NFLPA, general manager Rick Spielman said Thursday. Bridgewater started the season on the physically unable to perform (PUP) list but was cleared to return to practice Oct. 16. It’s unclear whether Bridgewater’s contract will be tolled for next season due to his time spent on the PUP list. If it is tolled, Bridgewater is eligible to become a free agent.  ...Read more

Former NBA Player Rasual Butler, Wife Leah LaBelle Die In Los Angeles Car Crash

Former NBA forward Rasual Butler and his wife were killed in a single-vehicle rollover crash in Los Angeles early Wednesday.  The couple’s death was confirmed by one of Butler’s former teams, the Miami Heat, who selected him in the second round of the 2002 NBA Draft. The couple’s Range Rover crashed at around 2:30 a.m. on Ventura Boulevard in Studio City. Los Angeles police said in a statement that Butler was speeding before his vehicle jumped a curb, hit three parking meters and a concrete wall and then flipped over twice. The vehicle came to rest inside a shopping mall parking lot. Butler, 38, and Leah LaBelle Vladowski, 31, were pronounced dead at the scene, said Ed Winter, assistant chief investigator with the Los Angeles County coroner’s office. Kansas City Chiefs Trade Quarterback Alex Smith To Washington Redskins

The Washington Redskins and Kansas City Chiefs have engaged in the first blockbuster of the 2018 offseason. ESPN has confirmed that the Redskins will acquire quarterback Alex Smith, allowing them to part ways with previous starter Kirk Cousins. The Kansas City Star first reported the trade, which won’t become official until the start of the league year on March 14. The Redskins would give Kansas City a third-round pick and Redskins cornerback Kendall Fuller as compensation. Smith, 33, came to the Chiefs in a 2013 trade that sent two second-round draft picks to the San Francisco 49ers. He guided the team to the playoffs in four of his five seasons. New Orleans Pelicans Player DeMarcus Cousins Will Have Surgery to Repair Season-Ending Achilles Injury

New Orleans Pelicans coach Alvin Gentry announced player DeMarcus Cousins will undergo surgery on Wednesday to repair his Achilles injury. The All-Star suffered a ruptured Achilles in his left leg and will miss the remainder of the season. He will finish the season with averages of 25.2 points, 12.9 rebounds and 5.4 assists per game. His rebound and assist averages are the highest of his career. The 27-year-old has been one of the best players in the NBA at his position for the past few years, earning five straight All-Star selections, although the latest injury will prevent him from competing this season. One-Handed LB Shaquem Griffin Receives Invite To NFL Combine

UCF Knights linebacker Shaquem Griffin received an invitation to the 2018 NFL Scouting Combine in March. Griffin announced his call Tuesday on Twitter. The combine features over 300 college football players trying out in front of NFL officials in Indianapolis. Griffin had his left hand amputated at four years old due to a congenital disability called amniotic band syndrome. If drafted, he would be the first player with one hand to make it to the NFL. Griffin, a two-time AAC Defensive Player of the Year, impressed many with his play Saturday at the Senior Bowl. At that time, he claimed he had not received a combine invitation. Cleveland Indians Will Abandon “Chief Wahoo” Logo Next Year

The Cleveland Indians’ jerseys will look a bit different starting in 2019, with the team removing the Chief Wahoo insignia. Major League Baseball announced the decision on Monday. The Indians will discontinue the use of the logo on their uniforms after the 2018 season. The mutual decision was made by the Indians and the league, according to a news release from Major League Baseball. MLB Commissioner Rob Manfred called the logo “no longer appropriate.” The Indians opted to go back to the Block C as their primary mark on apparel before the 2014 season. After weeks of rumors, Ronda Rousey made her debut in WWE after the women’s Royal Rumble on Sunday night. Rousey, who just last week denied having a deal in place with Vince McMahon’s wrestling company, surprised the Philadelphia crowd after Asuka won the women’s Royal Rumble.  “This is my life now. First priority on my timeline for the next several years.
