Jacksonville Jaguars Sign RB Jamaal Charles With Leonard Fournette Sidelined

On Tuesday, the Jacksonville Jaguars announced the signing of running back Jamaal Charles to a one-year deal. With Corey Grant out for the season, Leonard Fournette sidelined with a hamstring injury and T.J. Yeldon playing on a bad ankle, the Jaguars had to make some moves. Charles averaged 4.3 yards per carry last year in Denver. He also became the leading rusher in Chiefs history (7,260 yards) despite a series of knee injuries. In nine seasons with Kansas City, Charles scored 64 total touchdowns in 103 games and was named to the Pro Bowl four times. He had four seasons with at least 40 receptions.  ...Read more

Houston Astros Advance To ALCS With Sweep Of Cleveland Indians

The defending World Series champions Houston Astros advanced to the AL Championship Series for the second straight year, completing a sweep of the Cleveland Indians on Monday with an 11-3 win in Game 3 of the division series. Marwin Gonzalez hit a two-run double off Bauer on a shoulder-high pitch as the Astros scored three runs in the seventh inning and closed the series down. The Indians hit just .144 in the series, have lost six straight playoff games and were swept for the first time since the 1954 World Series. The Astros will now have to wait for the winner of the Boston-New York series for their next shot to play for the championship. ...Read more

Los Angeles Dodgers Beat Atlanta Braves 3-1; Will Face Milwaukee Brewers In NL Championship Series

For the third consecutive year, the Los Angeles Dodgers will return to the National League Championship Series after defeating the Atlanta Braves 6-2 in Game 4 of the NLDS at SunTrust Park. David Freese, pinch-hitting for reliever Ryan Madson, hit a two-run single to give the Dodgers a 3-2 lead with two outs in the sixth inning. Running Back Isaiah Crowell Sets NY Jets Franchise Rushing Record In Win Over Denver Broncos

New York Jets running back Isaiah Crowell delivered the best rushing day in the franchise’s history. Crowell rushed for a career-high 219 yards in a 34-16 victory over the Denver Broncos on Sunday at MetLife Stadium.  This included a 77-yard touchdown that launched the Jets towards 21-points scored in the second quarter. Crowell set the franchise mark on just 15 carries for an NFL-record. Two weeks ago, Crowell caused controversy with his coach with a crude touchdown celebration; but his time he simply tossed the ball away and celebrated with teammates. Brawl Ensues After Khabib Nurmagomedov Submits Conor McGregor At UFC 229

Conor McGregor tapped out in the fourth round of his comeback fight at UFC 229 against Khabib Nurmagomedov, who then climbed over the cage and set off a brawl by scuffling with another fighter in McGregor’s corner on Saturday night. The mayhem occurred after McGregor got caught in a choke by Nurmagomedov (27-0), who defended his lightweight belt by defeating McGregor. who infamously attacked a bus carrying Nurmagomedov. However, Nurmagomedov stepped away from McGregor and immediately pointed at his corner, shouting and throwing his mouthpiece. The men in McGregor’s corner appeared to respond with taunts, and Nurmagomedov climbed over the fence and fought with Dillon Danis, a Bellator welterweight who trains with McGregor. Meanwhile, two men apparently from Nurmagomedov’s entourage entered the cage and sucker-punched McGregor, who defended himself before security got involved. Nurmagomedov and McGregor both left the ring before the championship belt could be presented to Nurmagomedov. Both fighters’ purses will be withheld pending an investigation by the Nevada Athletic Commission.  ...Read more

Baltimore Orioles Fire Manager Buck Showalter, Executive VP Dan Duquette After Worst Season In Team History

Baltimore Orioles manager Buck Showalter, and executive vice president of baseball operations Dan Duquette, will not return in 2019, the team announced Wednesday night. Showalter took the helm during the 2010 season, while Duquette was hired as general manager after the 2011 campaign. Showalter and Duquette both had contracts that expire at the end of October. The Orioles said in a statement, “we thank Dan and Buck for their many contributions over the past several years. Under their leadership, prior to the 2018 season and for six consecutive years, the club delivered competitive teams playing meaningful baseball into September, achieved three postseason appearances and came within four games of a World Series appearance, and won more games than any other American League club during a period spanning five of those six enjoyable seasons.”  This past season was the worst in Orioles history; Baltimore became just the fifth major league team since 1900 to lose 115 games or more in a season. ...Read more

Cristiano Ronaldo Left Off Portugal Squad For Next Few Matches Amid Rape Allegation

Cristiano Ronaldo has been left off Portugal’s national team squad for a pair of upcoming matches, the decision coming as Ronaldo deals with rape allegations against him. Ronaldo has been accused of rape by Kathryn Mayorga, who says the player assaulted her in Las Vegas in 2009. He has denied the accusation. Ronaldo was left off the squad for Portugal’s second game in the UEFA Nations League at Poland on Oct. 11, as well as a match in Glasgow against Scotland three days later. Ronaldo also missed Portugal’s first two post-World Cup matches last month, with coach Fernando Santos saying Ronaldo had only just moved to the Italian club and was still settling down there. ...Read more

NY Yankees Beat The Oakland Athletics 7-2 In Wild-Card Win; Advance To ALDS Against Boston

The New York Yankees defeated the Oakland A’s, 7-2, in the American League Wild Card Game at Yankee Stadium on Wednesday night. Right fielder Aaron Judge went 2-for-3 with a walk, and his two-run home run in the first inning began the Yankees scoring streak. First baseman Luke Voit added with a two-RBI triple during a four-run sixth inning , and Giancarlo Stanton added a towering solo HR in the eighth inning. The Yankees advanced to play the Red Sox in the division series beginning Friday at Fenway Park. It will be the first time the rivals will meet in the playoffs since the  A.L. Top-ranked Simona Halep of Romania may have to withdraw from this month’s WTA Finals after a scan on Tuesday revealed she had suffered a herniated disc in her back. The French Open champion was injured while training at last week’s Wuhan Open, where she lost in the second round to Slovakia’s Dominika Cibulkova. Halep then aggravated the problem during her China Open first-round match on Sunday against Ons Jabeur and was forced to withdraw after losing the first set. “I had an MRI on my back and found out I have a disc hernia,” Halep said on Twitter. “I will discuss with doctors in the next few days but hope to be back soon and will keep you updated.” ...Read more

Colorado Rockies Beat Chicago Cubs In Extra Innings To Advance To NLDS

The Colorado Rockies beat the Chicago Cubs 2-1 Tuesday in a wild game that kicked off the Major League Baseball postseason. Colorado’s Tony Wolters’ two-out single off Cubs pitcher Kyle Hendricks in the 13th inning sent the Rockies to the National League Divisional Series. The Cubs won 95 games this year and were the World Series champs just 2 years ago, but ended their season last night. The Rockies will face the Milwaukee Brewers in the NLDS series, with Game 1 set for Thursday night.
