New York Yankees Pitcher Jordan Montgomery To Have Season-Ending Elbow Surgery

New York Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery will have Tommy John surgery on his elbow this week, the team announced Tuesday. Montgomery had been throwing on flat ground but experienced a setback in his latest stint last weekend in Baltimore. Manager Aaron Boone said ”He wasn’t comfortable, shut it down that day and then went home to just get checked on again, MRI, and this was the conclusion.”   Montgomery is 2-0 with a 3.62 ERA in six starts. He left a May 1 start against Houston after one inning because of tightness in his elbow. The 25-year-old appeared to wince and shake his arm after the last of his seven pitches in a perfect first inning. Montgomery will undergo surgery in New York on Thursday. ...Read more

Warriors Forward Andre Iguodala’s Status Upgraded To “Questionable” Ahead Of Game 3 Against The Cavaliers

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Tuesday that he is “hopeful” forward Andre Iguodala will be able to play in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday. Currently Iguodala is listed as questionable with a leg injury. Iguodala missed the final four games of the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets and the first two games of the NBA Finals vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite Iguodala’s absence, Golden State has a 2-0 series lead over Cleveland. The Washington Capitals are one win away from winning the Stanley Cup Final for the first time ever. Washington beat the Vegas Golden Knights 6-2 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at Capital One Arena on Monday, with solid performances from goaltender Braden Holtby, goals from T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly, John Carlson, Michal Kempny and Brett Connolly, and four assists from Evgeny Kuznetsov to move closer to winning the series. Serena Williams Withdraws From French Open Before Maria Sharapova Match Due To Injury

Serena Williams withdrew from the French Open with a pectoral muscle injury, minutes before she was expected to take the court to face Maria Sharapova in Monday’s fourth round. Williams said the injury has worsened since she first felt it in her last singles match Saturday, saying “Right now I can’t actually serve. It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve.” Williams said she would get an MRI on Tuesday and “see as many specialists as I can” before determining whether she can play Wimbledon in four weeks. Williams was favored against the two-time French Open champion Sharapova, whom Williams has beaten 18 straight times since 2005. “It’s difficult because I love playing Maria,” Williams said. “It’s a match I always get up for. Warriors Take 2-0 Lead Against Cavaliers In NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors have taken a 2-0 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for the third straight season, with a 122-103 win. Stephen Curry finished with an NBA Finals record nine 3-pointers as he scored 33 points to lead the Warriors to victory. Kevin Durant added 26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Cavs LeBron James had another strong game, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists, but it wasn’t enough to give his team the win.  Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland. ...Read more

Venus And Serena Williams Eliminated From Women’s Doubles At French Open

The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, are out of the French Open women’s doubles tournament.The third-seeded pairing of Andreja Klepac and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beat the Americans 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-0 Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals. The Williams sisters last competed at a major tournament together at Wimbledon in 2016. They won their 14th Grand Slam title in doubles at the All England Club. The Golden State Warriors were victorious over the Cleveland Cavaliers in a 124-114 win in Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals. Golden State pulled off the victory despite LeBron James racking up 51 points — his most ever in a playoff game — on Thursday at Oracle Arena in Oakland.  Stephen Curry led the Warriors with 29 points and Kevin Durant scored 26 points in the game. Serena Williams Rallies To Reach Third Round Of French Open

Serena Williams beat to No. 17 seed Ashleigh Barty in the second round of the French Open on Thursday. She won 3–6, 6–3, 6–4 to move on to the third round. Williams dropped the first set to Barty 6–3, but didn’t go down after that loss and mounted a comeback in the second set. She got the momentum early, taking a four games to one lead before winning the set 6–3. The 36-year-old unseeded Williams then took a 3–1 lead in the deciding final set before winning 6–4. Washington Capitals Beat Golden Knights 3-2 In Game 2 Of Stanley Cup Final

The Washington Capitals evened the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday, with some help from Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby. Holtby made 37 saves, Ovechkin scored a power-play goal and Lars Eller added a goal and two assists in the Capitals’ 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2. The Capitals hung on through a scoreless third period for their first Stanley Cup Final victory in franchise history.  The Caps are just 4-5 at home in the postseason, but they’ll be riding a wave of momentum since taking away home-ice advantage in their first Stanley Cup Final in 20 years. Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala Ruled Out For Game 1 Against Cleveland

Warriors forward Andre Iguodala has been ruled out for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night against Cleveland. Iguodala is suffering with a left lateral leg contusion/bone bruise. After missing the last four games of the Western Conference finals, Iguodala, 34, was evaluated by Golden State’s medical staff on Tuesday. The Warriors announced that he “is making progress; however, the pain that accompanies the bone bruise persists, as does inflammation of the nerve surrounding his left knee.” Iguodala’s absence is a blow to the Warriors, who is working at their third NBA title in four years.  ...Read more
