New England Patriots Julian Edelman Suspended 4 Games For Violating Performance-Enhancing Drug Policy

The NFL on Thursday announced that the New England Patriots wideout Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension for violating the league’s policy on performance-enhancing drugs. After missing the entire 2017-18 season due to injury, Edelman may also miss the start of the team’s 2018-19 season. Virginia Hanlon Grohl, mother of Foo Fighters leader Dave Grohl, is developing a docu-series based on her 2017 book, From Cradle to Stage, featuring interviews with fellow music moms. For the original project, Virginia spoke with numerous mothers of famous musicians, including Marianne Stipe (mother of R.E.M.’s Michael Stipe), Donna Haim (the Haim sisters), Janis Winehouse (Amy Winehouse), Verna Griffin (Dr. Dre) and Hester Diamond (the Beastie Boys’ Mike D). Conor McGregor Reveals He Agreed To Fight At UFC 224

Conor McGregor posted on social media on Wednesday that he agreed to make a history-making return to the UFC last month. The former featherweight and lightweight champion hasn’t fought in MMA since winning the 155-pound belt in November 2016.  McGregor took to Instagram to celebrate his placement at No. 4 on the Forbes list of the world’s highest-paid athletes for 2017, but then added that he would have placed higher with an “agreed May 12th bout in Rio de Janeiro” before “something came up.” That fight almost certainly would have been against Rafael dos Anjos for the interim welterweight championship.  ...Read more

New York Yankees Pitcher Jordan Montgomery To Have Season-Ending Elbow Surgery

New York Yankees left-hander Jordan Montgomery will have Tommy John surgery on his elbow this week, the team announced Tuesday. Montgomery had been throwing on flat ground but experienced a setback in his latest stint last weekend in Baltimore. Manager Aaron Boone said ”He wasn’t comfortable, shut it down that day and then went home to just get checked on again, MRI, and this was the conclusion.”   Montgomery is 2-0 with a 3.62 ERA in six starts. He left a May 1 start against Houston after one inning because of tightness in his elbow. The 25-year-old appeared to wince and shake his arm after the last of his seven pitches in a perfect first inning. Montgomery will undergo surgery in New York on Thursday. ...Read more

Warriors Forward Andre Iguodala’s Status Upgraded To “Questionable” Ahead Of Game 3 Against The Cavaliers

Golden State Warriors head coach Steve Kerr said Tuesday that he is “hopeful” forward Andre Iguodala will be able to play in Game 3 of the NBA Finals on Wednesday. Currently Iguodala is listed as questionable with a leg injury. Iguodala missed the final four games of the Western Conference Finals against the Houston Rockets and the first two games of the NBA Finals vs. the Cleveland Cavaliers. Despite Iguodala’s absence, Golden State has a 2-0 series lead over Cleveland. Iguodala suffered the injury after bumping knees with Rockets guard James Harden in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals. He was later diagnosed with a left lateral leg contusion. ...Read more

The Washington Capitals are one win away from winning the Stanley Cup Final for the first time ever. Washington beat the Vegas Golden Knights 6-2 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at Capital One Arena on Monday, with solid performances from goaltender Braden Holtby, goals from T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly, John Carlson, Michal Kempny and Brett Connolly, and four assists from Evgeny Kuznetsov to move closer to winning the series. Serena Williams Withdraws From French Open Before Maria Sharapova Match Due To Injury

Serena Williams withdrew from the French Open with a pectoral muscle injury, minutes before she was expected to take the court to face Maria Sharapova in Monday’s fourth round. Williams said the injury has worsened since she first felt it in her last singles match Saturday, saying “Right now I can’t actually serve. It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve.” Williams said she would get an MRI on Tuesday and “see as many specialists as I can” before determining whether she can play Wimbledon in four weeks. Williams was favored against the two-time French Open champion Sharapova, whom Williams has beaten 18 straight times since 2005. “It’s difficult because I love playing Maria,” Williams said. “It’s a match I always get up for. Warriors Take 2-0 Lead Against Cavaliers In NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors have taken a 2-0 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for the third straight season, with a 122-103 win. Stephen Curry finished with an NBA Finals record nine 3-pointers as he scored 33 points to lead the Warriors to victory. Kevin Durant added 26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Cavs LeBron James had another strong game, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists, but it wasn’t enough to give his team the win.  Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland. ...Read more

Venus And Serena Williams Eliminated From Women’s Doubles At French Open

The Williams sisters, Venus and Serena, are out of the French Open women’s doubles tournament.The third-seeded pairing of Andreja Klepac and Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez beat the Americans 6-4, 6-7 (4), 6-0 Sunday to advance to the quarterfinals. The Williams sisters last competed at a major tournament together at Wimbledon in 2016. They won their 14th Grand Slam title in doubles at the All England Club. Serena Williams will face Maria Sharapova in the fourth round of the women’s singles tournament Monday. Venus Williams lost in the first round. ...Read more
