The Los Angeles Dodgers are one win away from the World Series, having taken Game 5 from the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-2 win. Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw bounced back from a rough Game 1 outing to allow only one run allowed in seven innings. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-2 off the bench, including a clutch RBI single in the sixth inning, to help Los Angeles build a 3-2 lead in the Series The series now returns to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Friday. Canelo Alvarez Signs Record-Setting Contract With DAZN

Boxer Canelo Alvarez has signed a five-year, 11-fight contract worth a minimum of $365 million with new sports streaming service DAZN. The deal was finalized early Wednesday morning, making Alvarez the richest athlete contract in sports history. Alvarez, who’s part of Oscar De La Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions, is the unified middleweight world champio, and has a 50-1-2 record — his only loss coming against undefeated Floyd Mayweather Jr. in September 2013. Alvarez also defeated Gennady Golovkin last month in a battle featuring two of boxing’s biggest superstars. With HBO recently announcing its plan to no longer provide boxing coverage by the end of 2018, DAZN hopes to step up. Alvarez will next fight Rocky Fielding on Dec. 15 at Madison Square Garden in New York. ...Read more

The Los Angeles Dodgers defeated the Milwaukee Brewers 2-1 in 13 innings to take Game 4 of the NLCS at Dodger Stadium on Tuesday night; the series is not even at two games each. Dodgers 1st baseman Cody Bellinger clinched the winning run with a walk-off single in the 13th inning that scored Manny Machado from second base, this after the teams were stuck at 1-1 from the top of the fifth inning. Red Sox Pitcher Chris Sale Uncertain For Game 5 Of ALCS; Boston Takes 2-1 Lead In Series

Boston Red Sox starter Chris Sale was released from a Boston-area hospital Monday morning and will rejoin the team Tuesday after dealing with a stomach illness, the team announced. Manager Alex Cora said he does not know if Sale will be ready for Thursday’s Game 5 of the American League Championship Series. If Sale can’t start Thursday, Cora said he could go with left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez or make it a bullpen game, or “all of the above,” the manager said. Rick Porcello is the scheduled Game 4 starter; when asked if everyone other than Sale was available out of the bullpen for Game 3, Cora smiled and said, “Rick is the starter tomorrow. Rick. So we’ll maneuver it.” As of Tuesday night’s game, the Red Sox have a 2-1 lead in the best-of-seven series. ...Read more

Milwaukee Brewers Take 2-1 Lead In NLCS Against LA Dodgers With 4-0 Win In Game 3

The Milwaukee Brewers took a 4-0 win against the Dodgers in Game 3 of the NLCS on Monday in Los Angeles. Ryan Braun gave Milwaukee a 1-0 lead with an RBI single off of Walker Buehler in the top of the first inning. Buehler threw a wild pitch in the sixth inning for the Brewers’ second run, and Orlando Arcia’s seventh inning, two-run homer was all the Brewers needed to shut the Dodgers down. Brewers starting pitcher Jhoulys Chacin allowed three hits and had six strikeouts in 5.1 shutout innings before being relieved in the sixth inning. The Brewers’ bullpen nailed down the win by allowing just two hits and tossing eight strikeouts over the final 3.2 innings. The Brewers now lead the series 2-1. Buffalo Bills QB Josh Allen Exits Game Vs. Houston Texans With Elbow Injury

The Buffalo Bills’ rookie quarterback Josh Allen exited Sunday’s meeting with the Houston Texans in the third quarter with an elbow injury. Allen managed to complete 10 of 17 passes for 84 yards, before hurting his elbow when he was hit by the pair of Texans pass rushers in Whitney Mercilus and Jadeveon Clowney.  The Bills were forced to send in quarterback Nathan Peterman to the field, who finished the game with only 61 passing yards and a touchdown with two interceptions on 6-of-12 completions. Buffalo ended the Houston game with a 20-13 loss, and will next face the Indianapolis Colts on the road in Week 7. ...Read more

Conor McGregor, Khabib Nurmagomedov Both Suspended 10 Days For Brawl At UFC 229

UFC fighters Khabib Nurmagomedov and Conor McGregor are being suspended by the Nevada Athletic Commission for a brawl that occurred after their lightweight title fight last weekend in Las Vegas Letters were sent informing both fighters that they will be suspended for at least 10 days effective Oct. 15, commission executive Bob Bennett said Thursday. A commission investigation is pending and the panel can extend the temporary suspension when it meets Oct. 24. Nurmagomedov and McGregor could also appeal Bennett’s executive action at that time. Earlier this week, Nurmagomedov’s $2 million for the fight was withheld by the commission pending the outcome of the investigation; McGregor received his $3 million purse. UFC President Dana White also said three members of Nurmagomedov’s camp were detained by police but released, because McGregor refused to press criminal charges. White said the UFC might strip the lightweight title from Nurmagomedov, as well.  ...Read more

St. Louis Cardinals Agree To 1-Year Deal With Veteran Adam Wainwright

On Thursday, the St. Louis Cardinals announced that veteran right-hander Adam Wainwright has agreed to a one-year deal. The 37-year-old Wainwright has been with St. Louis since making his big league debut in 2005. Wainwright made just eight starts this season because of hamstring and elbow problems, going 2-4 with a 4.46 ERA, but he pitched four times in September as the Cardinals made an unsuccessful bid for a postseason spot. Wainwright is a three-time All-Star and is fifth on the Cardinals’ career list with 148 wins and second with 1,623 strikeouts. He was a closer for the Cardinals when they won the World Series in 2006.  Wainwright went 20-9 with a 2.38 ERA in 2014, but he’s posted a 4.54 ERA over the four seasons since. ...Read more
