LaVar Ball Announces Sons LiAngelo and LaMelo Have Signed With Agent

LaVar Ball told ESPN that his sons LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball have signed with agent Harrison Gaines, ending any speculation that LaMelo will play college basketball. The plan is now for both to play on the same team overseas.  Ball said earlier this week that the plan was still for LaMelo to play at UCLA in two years. Pittsburgh Steelers Announce Linebacker Ryan Shazier Underwent Spinal Surgery

Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday night to address his spinal injury suffered this week, the team announced Thursday.  Shazier returned to Pittsburgh and started receiving medical treatment for the injury at a UPMC facility on Wednesday. Steelers’ Ryan Shazier Transported to Pittsburgh Hospital As Tests And Evaluations Continue

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has been transferred from University of Cincinnati Medical Center to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of a spinal injury suffered in Monday night’s win over the Bengals, the team announced Wednesday.  Shazier left Paul Brown Stadium on a stretcher less than four minutes into his team’s 23-20 victory over Cincinnati following a tackle that left the 25-year-old writhing on the turf, his legs motionless. Cristiano Ronaldo set another Champions League record on Wednesday by scoring in Real Madrid’s 3-2 win over Borussia Dortmund and becoming the first player to net in all six group games. Steelers’ JuJu Smith-Schuster And Bengals’ George Iloka Suspended One Game For Hits To Head

Steelers receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster and Bengals safety George Iloka have been suspended one game for dangerous blows to the head in Monday night’s game, the NFL announced Tuesday.  Both plays occurred on the same drive in the fourth quarter. First, Smith-Schuster leveled Cincinnati linebacker Vontaze Burfict with a blindside block and stood over him, taunting him. Burfict was taken from the field on a stretcher and diagnosed with a concussion. Smith-Schuster was penalized 15 yards for unnecessary roughness but not ejected. Iloka will miss Cincinnati’s game against the Bears, while Smith-Schuster will sit out an important game against the Ravens.  ...Read more

Russia Banned From 2018 Winter Olympics Over Doping Program

The International Olympic Committee on Tuesday announced it was barring the Russian Olympic team from participating in the February 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea, as punishment for a state-sponsored doping scheme at the last Winter Games in Sochi.  “We have never seen such manipulation and cheating,” IOC disciplinary commission chairman Samuel Schmid told reporters, “and this has caused unprecedented damage to the Olympics and to sports.”  The IOC has been investigating doping by Russian athletes and manipulation of doping tests for more than a year, and as a result of its findings issued its most severe penalty ever. ...Read more

LaVar Ball, father of UCLA freshman shooting guard LiAngelo Ball, said Monday that he intended to withdraw his son from school over concerns related to the indefinite suspension he was issued last month for his acknowledged role in a shoplifting incident. LiAngelo Ball and fellow Bruins freshmen Cody Riley and Jalen Hill have been barred from all team activities as part of their suspension for shoplifting from three stores inside an upscale mall in China last month during UCLA’s trip overseas to play Georgia Tech in its season opener. ...Read more

The New York Giants fired coach Ben McAdoo and General Manager Jerry Reese on Monday, less than a year after the team made the playoffs for the first time since 2011. Tiger Woods’s return to competitive golf after a 301-day absence concluded on Sunday the way it began, with 18 holes in lock step with the reigning FedEx Cup champion, Justin Thomas. Woods closed with his third sub-70 score of the week, a 4-under-par 68, the same number posted by Thomas, to tie for ninth at eight-under at the Hero World Challenge.
