NY Yankees Starter Luis Severino Out For Year, Will Need Tommy John Surgery On Elbow

New York Yankees general manager Brian Cashman confirmed on Tuesday that their right-handed starting pitcher, Luis Severino, will need Tommy John surgery. Last week Severino experienced discomfort in his right forearm, and was sent from spring training camp in Tampa, Fla., to New York for medical testing. Surgery and subsequent rehabilitation will sideline the 26-year-old for the entire 2020 season. ...Read more

Katherine Johnson, the NASA mathematician who was depicted in the film “Hidden Figures,” died Monday, NASA said in a tweet. She was 101. NASA Administrator Jim Bridenstine in a statement:  “Ms. Johnson helped our nation enlarge the frontiers of space even as she made huge strides that also opened doors for women and people of color in the universal human quest to explore space. Harvey Weinstein Found Guilty On Two Charges, Including Third-Degree Rape

Disgraced movie mogul Harvey Weinstein was found guilty of third-degree rape and a criminal sex act on Monday. After over five days of deliberation, jurors in Manhattan Supreme Court cleared Weinstein, 67, of the most serious charge against him, predatory sex assault. He faced five charges, including predatory sexual assault and first-degree rape, for the alleged sexual assault of Miriam Haleyi inside his SoHo apartment in 2006 and the alleged 2013 rape of Jessica Mann inside a New York hotel room. ...Read more

Arizona Diamondbacks Pitcher Madison Bumgarner Admits To Using Alias While Competing At Rodeo Events

Arizona Diamondbacks left-hander Madison Bumgarner says he has been competing in rodeo events under the alias Mason Saunders. Bumgarner has discretely competed in rodeos for a while, including in March of last year – just two days before pitching for the San Francisco Giants in a Cactus League spring training game. He has been roping since he was 15 or 16 years old and said he’s been at it so long that “it’s just part of who you are.”  Bumgarner even won $26,560 in a team-roping competition last December. ...Read more

On Monday, a memorial service inside Staples Center celebrated the lives of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant and his daughter Gianna. The date — Feb. 24 — reflects the basketball jersey numbers worn by Kobe (No. 24) and Gianna (No. 2).
