Florida Counties Begin Recounting Ballots After Conflicts Arise Follwing The Florida Election Races

Miami-Dade County elections officials say they’ve started recounting ballots from Tuesday’s election, and officials from the county’s elections office confirmed Saturday evening that they’ve started a machine recount. Considering there were some 800,000 ballots cast, and official will need to load paper ballots into scanning machines, the results of the recount could take days. The unofficial results show that Republican former U.S. Rep. Ron DeSantis led Democratic Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum by less than 0.5 percentage points, which will require a machine recount of ballots. In the Senate race, Republican Gov. Rick Scott’s lead over Democratic incumbent Bill Nelson is less than 0.25 percentage points, which will require a hand recount of ballots from tabulation machines that couldn’t determine which candidate got the vote.  ...Read more

25 Confirmed Dead And Over 7,000 Structures Burned As California Fires Rage On

Massive wildfires raging in Northern and Southern California have killed at least 25 people and destroyed thousands of homes as firefighters deal with heavy winds.  According to officials, the largest and deadliest of the infernos is the Camp Fire, which as of Sunday had burned 109,000 acres, leveled 6,453 homes and another 260 commercial structures in Northern California’s Butte County. At least 23 civilians have been killed in the Camp Fire, which began on Thursday and quickly swept through communities in the Sierra foothills, devastating the town of Paradise.  ...Read more

‘The Grinch’ Tops U.S. Box Office With $66M Opening Weekend

“Dr. Seuss’ The Grinch” earned $66 million for Universal Pictures to top the weekend North American box office, according to studio estimates Sunday. Last week’s top film “Bohemian Rhapsody,” dropped to second for 20th Century Fox with a $30.8 million weekend that brings its overall take to $100 million. “The Grinch,” with the title character voiced by Benedict Cumberbatch, was widely expected to be No. 1 with few other major openings this weekend, but it surpassed projections that had it bringing in closer to $60 million. Actress Meg Ryan Announces Engagement To Musician John Mellencamp Via Instagram Post

Actress Meg Ryan confirmed her engagement to John Mellencamp on Thursday, November 8, just one day after she was spotted wearing a diamond ring.  The 56-year-old actress captioned a photo of an illustration of the twosome on Thursday via her Instagram with the statement “ENGAGED!” Ryan and Mellencamp, 67, were first linked in 2011, but called it quits in 2014. While the pair reconciled later that year, they split again in 2015, before reuniting for a third time in 2017.  Ryan was previously married to actor Dennis Quaid, with whom she shares 26-year-old son Jack, from 1991 to 2001. Actress And Talk Show Host Tamera Mowry-Housley’s Niece Killed In Thousand Oaks Bar Shooting

Actress Tamera Mowry-Housley and her husband, former Fox News correspondent Adam Housley, searched for information about their niece, Alaina Housley, after a mass shooting took place in Southern California on Wednesday night. Yesterday the couple announced through their representative that they learned she was among the victims. In a joint statement on Thursday, they said: “Our hearts are broken. We just learned that our niece Alaina was one of the victims of last night’s shooting at Borderline bar in Thousand Oaks. Alaina was an incredible young woman with so much life ahead of her and we are devastated that her life was cut short in this manner. We thank everyone for your prayers and ask for privacy at this time.” Alaina Housley, an 18-year-old Pepperdine freshman, was at Thousand Oaks’ Borderline Bar & Grill when a gunman opened fire in the early hours Thursday morning. Tracking on her iPhone and Apple Watch put her location on the dance floor as of Thursday morning while Adam Housley searched the hospital and crime scene for his niece. The gunman, who killed 12 people including the responding sheriff’s sergeant, also died in the incident, apparently taking his own life. Tim Tebow To Start Triple-A For Mets Organization In 2019

New York Mets minor league outfielder Tim Tebow is expected to start the 2019 season with Class AAA Syracuse, which will be a promotion for the former NFL quarterback. The Mets new general manager Brodie Van Wagenen said at the GM Meetings in Carlsbad, Calif., on Wednesday, “that’s a great next step for him; we’re excited to get him back in camp and hopefully after a trip to Syracuse he’ll be able to prove to us and everybody in baseball that he can make an impact in the big leagues.” The 31-year-old Tebow hit .273 with 6 homers and 36 RBI in 84 games in 2018 for Class AA Binghamton before a broken bone in his right hand required surgery and cut his season short in July.  Tebow signed with Mets in late 2016, played in the Arizona Fall League and in 2017 hit .226 with eight homers and 52 RBI in 126 games at two levels of Class A.  ...Read more

Jung Ho Kang Signs With Pittsburgh Pirates For $3M, 1-Year Deal

Pittsburgh third baseman Jung Ho Kang agreed on Thursday to a $3 million, one-year contract with the Pirates, that includes $2.5 million in performance bonuses. The deal was announced a week after Pittsburgh declined a $5.5 million club option for the 31-year-old Kang, which initiated a $250,000 buyout. General manager Neal Huntington said in a statement, “we feel that bringing Jung Ho back in 2019 will make us better as he will have the ability to make a positive impact on our lineup. Competition and options are important to any organization and this signing provides us with both.” The Pirates signed Kang to an $11 million, four-year deal in January 2015. He finished third in NL Rookie of the Year balloting after hitting 15 homers and driving in 58 runs in 2015, the high point of Kang’s MLB career. Kang didn’t play in the U.S. between September 2016 and June 2018 because of visa issues connected to three DUI arrests in South Korea.  ...Read more

Evacuations Ordered As Northern California Wildfire Grows

Thousands of people have been ordered to evacuate several Northern California communities due to a fast-moving wildfire that exploded in size Thursday. Panicked residents are racing to help neighbors who had to drive through walls of flames to escape. It was not immediately known if there were injuries or fatalities. According to the Butte County Sheriff’s office, an evacuation order was issued for areas of Paradise, a town of about 27,000 people 180 miles northeast of San Francisco. Cal Fire spokesman Rick Carhart said the wildfire was reported at 6:30 a.m., affecting about 30,000 people in the towns of Paradise, Concow and other small communities. Carhart also said officials were sending as many crews as they could gather. The California Highway Patrol closed a nearby highway and urged motorists to avoid the area. The National Weather Service issued red flag warnings for fire dangers in many areas of the state, saying low humidity and strong winds were expected to continue through Friday evening. ...Read more

​Missouri Duck Boat Captain Indicted In Connection With Sinking That Killed 17 Passengers​

Federal authorities announced on Thursday that a federal grand jury indicted the duck boat captain whose vessel capsized near Branson, Missouri, killing 17 passengers. Officials said that the captain, 51-year-old Kenneth Scott McKee of Verona, Missouri, was charged with 17 counts of misconduct, negligence or inattention to duty by a ship’s officer. Back on July 19 this tragedy occurred when a Ride the Ducks amphibious boat, dubbed “Stretch Duck 7,” ventured on to Table Rock Lake during a thunderstorm with 60 mph winds. The U.S. Coast Guard found probable cause that the accident “resulted from the misconduct, negligence, or inattention to the duties” by McKee, according to an August court filing. According to the indictment, McKee operated the boat “in violation of the conditions and limitations specified in the vessel’s United States Coast Guard issued Certificate of Inspection.” ...Read more
