Disney-Pixar’s “Coco” Tops Box Office For Third-Straight Week

For the third weekend in a row, Disney•Pixar’s Coco wins the domestic box office with $18.3 million to bring its North American total to $135.5 million. The global total for Coco is now $390 million. “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” World Premieres In Los Angeles

The Star Wars family was back together again Saturday, December 9 for the world premiere of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. Director Rian Johnson and his team unveiled the film for the first public screening, which received positive reactions from USC’s Shrine Auditorium. Stars on hand included Daisy Ridley, Mark Hamill, John Boyega, Adam Driver, Domhnall Gleeson, Gwendoline Christie, Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Marie Tran.  After the film, which was dedicated to the memory of Carrie Fisher, the crowd celebrated with an after party that included a number of poignant moments.  “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opens in theaters on December 15. ...Read more

Former Olympic Gymnastics Doctor Larry Nassar Receives 60-Year Sentence for Child Porn

Larry Nassar, the former elite sports doctor whose sexual assault cases have rocked Michigan State University and the group that trains U.S. Olympic gymnasts, was sentenced Thursday to 60 years in federal prison for possessing thousands of images of child pornography. It’s the first of three prison sentences for Nassar, who will learn his punishment in state court in January after pleading guilty to using his hands to molest girls at his campus office, his home and at a gymnastics club near Lansing, Michigan, sometimes with parents in the room. ...Read more

Senator Al Franken Resigns Amid Sexual Misconduct Claims

Democratic Senator Al Franken has said he plans to quit “in the coming weeks” after a series of sexual harassment allegations. Franken is the most prominent lawmaker to resign amid a wave of sexual misconduct claims against high-profile figures, and comes a day after nearly 30 Democrats called on him to resign. “Today I am announcing that in the coming weeks I will be resigning as a member of the United States Senate,” he told his colleagues on Thursday. “I may be resigning my seat but I am not giving up my voice.” ...Read more

Jimmy Kimmel’s Son Billy ‘Recovering Well’ After 2nd Heart Surgery

Neil Patrick Harris filled in for Jimmy Kimmel last night on his show, and had some good news to share with fans. Kimmel’s infant son Billy is “recovering well” after his second heart surgery earlier this week, Harris said. “I’m thrilled his son Billy’s heart operation was a success. Jimmy told me today that the respirator is out,” he said. This new update comes a few days after Kimmel’s show rep told ABC News that Billy had undergone a “scheduled and successful” heart surgery. The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has established new standards of conduct for its members after allegations of sexual misconduct have roiled Hollywood in recent months. Academy chief executive officer Dawn Hudson sent a letter to its members Wednesday night, outlining the standards expected to be upheld by the roughly 8,500 members.The industry has been rocked by scandals that has reverberated beyond Hollywood since October when the New York Times and the New Yorker broke stories that included explosive sexual misconduct allegations against movie producer Harvey Weinstein.  ...Read more

LaVar Ball Announces Sons LiAngelo and LaMelo Have Signed With Agent

LaVar Ball told ESPN that his sons LiAngelo and LaMelo Ball have signed with agent Harrison Gaines, ending any speculation that LaMelo will play college basketball. The plan is now for both to play on the same team overseas.  Ball said earlier this week that the plan was still for LaMelo to play at UCLA in two years. Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier underwent spinal stabilization surgery Wednesday night to address his spinal injury suffered this week, the team announced Thursday.  Shazier returned to Pittsburgh and started receiving medical treatment for the injury at a UPMC facility on Wednesday. Steelers’ Ryan Shazier Transported to Pittsburgh Hospital As Tests And Evaluations Continue

Steelers linebacker Ryan Shazier has been transferred from University of Cincinnati Medical Center to a Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of a spinal injury suffered in Monday night’s win over the Bengals, the team announced Wednesday.  Shazier left Paul Brown Stadium on a stretcher less than four minutes into his team’s 23-20 victory over Cincinnati following a tackle that left the 25-year-old writhing on the turf, his legs motionless. He underwent extensive testing overnight, with the team saying Shazier’s injury did not require surgery “at this time.” ...Read more
