Cleveland Cavaliers Guard Kyle Korver Excused After Brother’s Death

The Cleveland Cavaliers announced in a statement that guard Kyle Korver has been excused from Wednesday’s game against the Toronto Raptors to be with his family after his brother Kirk died on Tuesday.  Kirk Korver, 27, was the youngest of four Korver brothers, all of whom played basketball at the college level or above. Kirk finished his career at the University of Missouri-Kansas City in 2013-14, amassing 597 points and 267 rebounds in four seasons as a forward for the Kangaroos. Kyle Korver missed the Cavs’ victory over the Chicago Bulls on Saturday to attend to what was termed a family medical emergency. “We extend our deepest condolences and heartfelt best to Kyle and his entire family as they go through this very difficult time,” the Cavaliers said in a statement. ...Read more

Disney Theme Parks Reveal New Marvel Superhero Attractions

On Tuesday, Disney announced that Marvel superhero-themed lands will be coming to Disney California Adventure, Disneyland Paris, and Hong Kong Disney in 2020. The lands are being developed in partnership with Marvel Studios and Marvel Themed Entertainment. At Disney California Adventure, the new Marvel land will open in 2020 surrounding the Guardians of the Galaxy — Mission: BREAKOUT, attractionwhich opened in 2017 to replace the Hollywood Tower of Terror attraction. Disney describes the land as “a completely immersive Super Hero universe.” At Disneyland Paris, a Marvel-themed area will be added to Walt Disney Studios Park and will include an attraction where riders will team up with Iron Man and the Avengers. And Hong Kong Disneyland has already started its Marvel-themed expansion plans, which will include a new attraction where riders can team with Ant-Man and The Wasp. Fox Network Defends Fred Savage Against Claims Of Harassment And Aggressive Behavior

Fox has investigated claims that actor Fred Savage verbally harassed female crew members on the set of The Grinderback when the show was on the air in 2015-2016, and said “no evidence” was found. “Fox takes all allegations of improper conduct very seriously,” 20th Century Fox said. “We conducted a thorough investigation into these allegations and found no evidence of any wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Savage. We will vigorously defend against these unfounded claims.”  On Wednesday (March 21), a former female crew member filed a lawsuit against Savage and Fox, saying the actor created “an extremely hostile work environment” with “aggressive behavior, intimidation, and constant use of profanities aimed toward female employees was left unchecked.” ...Read more

First Look At Renee Zellweger’s Transformation Into Judy Garland For New Biopic

The first photo of Renée Zellweger portraying Judy Garland in the upcoming biopic, “Judy,” has been released, and the 48-year-old star certainly has transformed herself into the legendary icon. Zellweger is rocking a brunette pixie cut and a black, off-the-shoulder floral dress in the picture, and appears to be singing while holding a microphone. It was also confirmed that Zellweger will in fact be singing in the movie, rather than using Garland’s past recordings.  “Judy” will take place during the winter of 1968, 30 years after Garland starred as Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz.” The film will follow Garland as she prepares for her sold-out run at The Talk of the Town nightclub. Garland died in June 1969, just 12 days following her 47th birthday. No specific date has been announced for the biopic’s release, though it is expected to come out later this year. ...Read more

Laura Dern, Reese Witherspoon Share First Look At ‘Big Little Lies’ Season 2

Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon and Laura Dern reunited on the show’s set Monday.  The actresses shared a photo in costume as Madeleine Mackenzie and Renata Klein while filming Season 2 of the HBO series. The picture shows Witherspoon and Dern sitting outside Seaside Coffee Shop in Monterey, California. “Watch out Monterery, here we come! #BLL2,” Witherspoon captioned the snapshot on Instagram. Dern posted the same photo on her own Instagram account. “Madeleine and Renata are back. #BLL2,” she wrote. Nicole Kidman, Shailene Woodley and Zoe Kravitz will also return as Celeste Wright, Jane Chapman and Bonnie Carlson. The new season will also feature Meryl Streep as the mother of Celeste’s late husband Perry Wright (Alexander Skarsgard). Big Little Lies Season 1 was based on the Liane Moriarty book of the same name. David E. Kelley will return as executive producer of the new season, with Andrea Arnold (American Honey) as director. ...Read more

Oklahoma Guard Trae Young Leaves OU To Enter NBA Draft

On Twitter this Tuesday, Freshman guard Trae Young posted that he will be leaving the University of Oklahoma to enter the NBA draft in June.  Young, 19, delivered a first-team All-America season and has elevated himself into comparisons with a young Stephen Curry. Young and his family, including his father, Ray, will soon start meeting with prospective agents for representation. Young is expected to start training for the pre-draft process with a trainer in California. Young had 28 points and eight assists in the Sooners’ season-ending loss to Rhode Island in the first round of the NCAA tournament on Thursday. For the season, Young led Division I players in scoring (27.4 points per game) and assists (8.7 per game).  ...Read more

FedEx Explosion In San Antonio Is Being Linked To Austin Blasts

A package that exploded at a FedEx distribution center near San Antonio early Tuesday is being linked to four blasts in Austin this month, according to sources. Tuesday’s explosion occurred around 12:25 a.m. local time (1:25 a.m. ET) in the sorting area of a facility in Schertz, Texas, officials said. At a news conference Tuesday morning, authorities declined to make a connection between the FedEx explosion and the Austin incidents, but a source briefed on the investigation later said that the blasts are indeed linked. Schertz is located 50 miles away from Austin; the bomber is thought to have mailed two packages from a FedEx drop-off center on Brodie Lane in Austin. One of the packages made it to Schertz where it exploded before it was to be sorted and returned to Austin, while the other arrived at a FedEx facility near the Austin airport, according to the source. 2 Injured, Gunman Dead In Maryland High School Shooting

A 17-year-old student shot and critically wounded two fellow students at a Maryland high school on Tuesday morning. The gunman was shot and killed after exchanging gunfire with a campus security officer, the county sheriff said.  The shooting occurred just before 8 a.m. at Great Mills High School in St. Mary’s County, county Sheriff Timothy Cameron said. A 16-year-old girl and a 14-year-old boy were wounded and taken to hospitals. The girl was in intensive care with life-threatening critical injuries, the sheriff said, while the boy was in good condition. The gunman was identified as Austin Wyatt Rollins. Sheriff Cameron said there was “an indication” of a prior relationship between him and the female student, though he said that was still under investigation. Rollins pulled out a Glock semiautomatic handgun around 7:55 a.m. in a hallway and shot the students, the sheriff said. The attack lasted less than a minute, ending after the school resource officer, Deputy 1st Class Sheriff Blaine Gaskill, ran inside the building and engaged with Rollins, with both firing a single round almost simultaneously. The officer was not harmed, however Rollins was confirmed deceased after being taken to a hospital. ...Read more
