Samantha Bee Apologizes For Ivanka Trump Comments After Widespread Backlash

Samantha Bee has apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless cunt” on her TBS show “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” on Wednesday night. In a statement, Bee said: “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”  The apology comes after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders singled Bee out for criticism and called the host’s language “vile and vicious.” “The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling,” Sanders said. TBS also apologized: “Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. It was our mistake too, and we regret it.” TBS initially had the clip of Bee’s segment available online and has since taken it down. ...Read more

Harvey Weinstein Indicted In New York Rape Case

Harvey Weinstein was indicted Wednesday on rape and criminal sex act charges, the first criminal case to arise from a slate of sexual misconduct allegations against the former movie mogul. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the indictment brings Weinstein “another step closer to accountability.” The announcement came hours after Weinstein’s lawyers said he’d decline to testify before the grand jury because there wasn’t enough time to prepare him and “political pressure” made an indictment unavoidable.  Weinstein was charged Friday with rape and criminal sex act charges involving two women in New York. Dozens more women have accused him of sexual misconduct ranging from harassment to assault in various locales. ...Read more

‘Jay And Silent Bob Reboot’ Set To Start Filming This Summer

We last saw filmmaker Kevin Smith’s iconic characters, Jay and Silent Bob, in 2001’s “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back” – a film in which they drive across country to stop Hollywood from making a film about them. Now a reboot is in the works, with the next film entitled “Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.” Smith said the new film will again follow Jay and Silent Bob across country as they try to stop Hollywood from making a reboot of the film they originally made in “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.”  “It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time.” Smith said. “Jay And Silent Bob Reboot” starts shooting in August, and will hopefully be out sometime in 2019. ...Read more

Starbucks Closes 8,000 Locations For Employee Anti-Bias Training Classes

Starbucks shops across the U.S. closed early on Tuesday to hold training for employees on recognizing hidden prejudices. It was part of the coffee chain’s effort to deal with the outcry over the arrest of two black men last month for sitting in a Philadelphia Starbucks without buying anything. After the incident, the company’s leaders apologized, met with the men and scheduled an afternoon of training for 175,000 employees at more than 8,000 U.S. stores. Developed with help from the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and other groups, the training was not mandatory, but Starbucks said it expected almost all of its employees to participate. It said they will be paid for the full four hours. ...Read more

Supreme Court Rejects Planned Parenthood’s Challenge To Arkansas Abortion Law

The Supreme Court on Tuesday rejected Planned Parenthood’s request to challenge a new Arkansas law that strengthens health protections for women undergoing medication abortions. The 2015 Arkansas law requires any abortion provider who performs medication-induced abortions (the most common abortion procedure used in the first trimester) to have a signed agreement with a physician who has admitting privileges to a local hospital that can handle any complications from the procedure. The regulation is set to take effect in July. The law is similar to a Texas regulation that was struck down by the Supreme Court in 2016. Proponents of the law argue this rule ensures women who suffer from abortion complications or botched procedures will get the emergency aftercare that they need. ...Read more
