Woman Charged For Tennessee Deputy Slaying; Manhunt On For 2nd Suspect

Tennessee authorities charged a woman with murder in connection with the slaying of Dickson County Sheriff’s Sgt. Daniel Baker as police searched Thursday for a second suspect. Erika Castro-Miles, 38, faces one count of first-degree murder for the Wednesday shooting. An affidavit said she told police she watched as Steven Wiggins shot and killed Baker.  Police launched a manhunt for Wiggins, 31, in connection with the shooting after Baker’s body was found in his vehicle. Castro-Miles allegedly fled the scene after the shooting and police found her hiding underneath a house nearby. Police believe Wiggins to be armed and dangerous. He had multiple active warrants before the shooting, including for aggravated assault and theft. ...Read more

Kim Kardashian Meets President Trump To Discuss Prison Reform

Kim Kardashian headed to Washington DC to discuss prison reform with officials, including senior adviser Jared Kushner and President Donald Trump. On Wednesday, Kim arrived at the White House with attorney Shawn Chapman Holley. It wasn’t originally clear if Kardashian would meet with the President, however, Trump tweeted out a photo of them in the Oval Office, writing, “Great meeting with @KimKardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing.” Kim’s visit was expected to include a conversation about the possibility of a pardon for Alice Marie Johnson, a 63-year-old great-grandmother who has been in prison for over 20 years on a nonviolent drug-related offense. Kim has been advocating for Alice’s clemency since late last year. Earlier in the day, Kim tweeted a message to Alice, saying, “Happy Birthday Alice Marie Johnson. Today is for you.” ...Read more

Samantha Bee Apologizes For Ivanka Trump Comments After Widespread Backlash

Samantha Bee has apologized for calling Ivanka Trump a “feckless cunt” on her TBS show “Full Frontal With Samantha Bee” on Wednesday night. In a statement, Bee said: “I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.”  The apology comes after White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders singled Bee out for criticism and called the host’s language “vile and vicious.” “The collective silence by the left and its media allies is appalling,” Sanders said. TBS also apologized: “Samantha Bee has taken the right action in apologizing for the vile and inappropriate language she used about Ivanka Trump last night. Those words should not have been aired. Washington Capitals Beat Golden Knights 3-2 In Game 2 Of Stanley Cup Final

The Washington Capitals evened the Stanley Cup Final on Wednesday, with some help from Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby. Holtby made 37 saves, Ovechkin scored a power-play goal and Lars Eller added a goal and two assists in the Capitals’ 3-2 victory over the Vegas Golden Knights in Game 2. The Capitals hung on through a scoreless third period for their first Stanley Cup Final victory in franchise history.  The Caps are just 4-5 at home in the postseason, but they’ll be riding a wave of momentum since taking away home-ice advantage in their first Stanley Cup Final in 20 years. Harvey Weinstein Indicted In New York Rape Case

Harvey Weinstein was indicted Wednesday on rape and criminal sex act charges, the first criminal case to arise from a slate of sexual misconduct allegations against the former movie mogul. Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus R. Vance Jr. said the indictment brings Weinstein “another step closer to accountability.” The announcement came hours after Weinstein’s lawyers said he’d decline to testify before the grand jury because there wasn’t enough time to prepare him and “political pressure” made an indictment unavoidable.  Weinstein was charged Friday with rape and criminal sex act charges involving two women in New York. Golden State Warriors’ Andre Iguodala Ruled Out For Game 1 Against Cleveland

Warriors forward Andre Iguodala has been ruled out for Game 1 of the NBA Finals on Thursday night against Cleveland. Iguodala is suffering with a left lateral leg contusion/bone bruise. After missing the last four games of the Western Conference finals, Iguodala, 34, was evaluated by Golden State’s medical staff on Tuesday. The Warriors announced that he “is making progress; however, the pain that accompanies the bone bruise persists, as does inflammation of the nerve surrounding his left knee.” Iguodala’s absence is a blow to the Warriors, who is working at their third NBA title in four years.  ...Read more

‘Jay And Silent Bob Reboot’ Set To Start Filming This Summer

We last saw filmmaker Kevin Smith’s iconic characters, Jay and Silent Bob, in 2001’s “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back” – a film in which they drive across country to stop Hollywood from making a film about them. Now a reboot is in the works, with the next film entitled “Jay And Silent Bob Reboot.” Smith said the new film will again follow Jay and Silent Bob across country as they try to stop Hollywood from making a reboot of the film they originally made in “Jay And Silent Bob Strike Back.”  “It’s a movie that makes fun of sequels and remakes and reboots while being all three at the same time.” Smith said. “Jay And Silent Bob Reboot” starts shooting in August, and will hopefully be out sometime in 2019. ...Read more

Starbucks Closes 8,000 Locations For Employee Anti-Bias Training Classes

Starbucks shops across the U.S. closed early on Tuesday to hold training for employees on recognizing hidden prejudices. It was part of the coffee chain’s effort to deal with the outcry over the arrest of two black men last month for sitting in a Philadelphia Starbucks without buying anything. After the incident, the company’s leaders apologized, met with the men and scheduled an afternoon of training for 175,000 employees at more than 8,000 U.S. stores. Developed with help from the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund and other groups, the training was not mandatory, but Starbucks said it expected almost all of its employees to participate.
