Suspected Stalker Arrested Outside Taylor Swift’s Home With Knife And Rope

A Colorado man who was wearing a mask and had a knife in his car when he was arrested outside a Beverly Hills home owned by Taylor Swift was released from custody on Tuesday while police continued their investigation. Julius Sandrock, 38, was arrested Saturday on suspicion of stalking after officers went to the home. Swift, who lives in New York, wasn’t at the home, police said. Sandrock was freed from jail on Tuesday morning, according to a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department website. Meanwhile, police obtained a temporary restraining order preventing Sandrock from possessing guns. ...Read more

76ers And Mavericks Headed To China For NBA China Game 2018

The Philadelphia 76ers will face the Dallas Mavericks in the NBA China Games 2018. The Mavericks and Sixers will meet twice, on Oct. 5 in Shanghai and Oct. 8 in Shenzhen. This will be the first time the Mavericks and Sixers play in China. The 25th and 26th NBA games in China will feature Philadelphia’s Joel Embiid and Ben Simmons against Dallas’ Dirk Nowitzki, Harrison Barnes and Dennis Smith Jr. The Mavericks recently changed their Chinese name to translate to “Lone Ranger Heroes” since their Mavericks name in Chinese is translated as “Little Cows.”  NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said in a statement, “the Mavericks and 76ers, both playing in China for the first time, will be able to encounter firsthand the incredible support of our Chinese fans and bond with one another through projects and events in the local community.” ...Read more

Former First Lady Barbara Bush Dies At Age 92

Former first lady Barbara Bush died Tuesday at her home in Houston, Texas. She was 92. Mrs. Bush served as the country’s first lady from 1989 to 1993. She passed away shortly after deciding to forgo further medical treatments for her failing health. A statement from the office of former President George H.W. Bush read, “a former first lady of the United States of America and relentless proponent of family literacy, Barbara Pierce Bush passed away Tuesday, April 17, 2018, at the age of 92.”  Mr. and Mrs. Bush celebrated their 73rd wedding anniversary on Jan. 6. Mrs. Bush was one of only two first ladies in the history of the country who was also the mother of a president; George W. Bush, the 43rd president of the United States.  ...Read more

Nebraska Basketball Coach Tim Miles Receives One-Year Contract Extension

After Nebraska set a school record for conference men’s basketball victories and completed a regular season with its second-most wins, head coach Tim Miles has a new one-year contract extension. Miles is 97-97 overall and 46-62 (.434) in conference play after six seasons. Miles said in a phone interview, “I’m really just thrilled to get on the floor and be working with these guys in the spring and look forward to next year.” Miles’ salary and buyout remain the same with his extension. Miles signed a seven-year contract after replacing Doc Sadler in 2012, and is set to make $2.375 million in 2018-19.  Nebraska, picked to finish 13th out of 14 Big Ten teams last season, finished 22-11 overall and fourth in the league at 13-5.  ...Read more

Steven Spielberg Is The First Director To Cross $10 Billion Worldwide

Steven Spielberg has just made history, becoming the first director to see the gross of his movies exceed $10 billion worldwide. After three weeks in theaters, Ready Player One has earned $114.9 million in the U.S., bringing its global total to $475.1 million. 1993’s Jurassic Park remains Spielberg’s biggest commercial success ($984 million) and other smash hits include 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($787 million) and 1983’s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial ($717 million) have garnered Spielberg this honor. Meanwhile the 71-year old Spielberg shows no signs of slowing down, as the filmmaker is currently developing a West Side Story remake and has a fifth Indiana Jones adventure film in the works. ...Read more

‘Big Bang Theory’ Enlists Mark Hamill, Kathy Bates For Wedding-Themed Season 11 Finale

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory is creating an impressive guest list for its wedding-themed season 11 finale, when Sheldon and Amy tie the knot. The May 11 season ender will focus on the marriage between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) and feature a roster of new and returning faces to the long-running series. Among the famous faces set to be in attendance for the nuptials are Star Wars’ Mark Hamill, Kathy Bates, Lauren Lapkus, Jerry O’Connell (as Sheldon’s brother, Georgie); and comedian Teller. It’s unclear if Hamill will play himself, though given how much Sheldon loves Star Wars it is a safe bet.  Returning favorites who received an invitation to return include John Ross Bowie (as frenemy Barry Kripke); Courtney Henggeler (Sheldon’s sister, Missy); previously announced Laurie Metcalf (Sheldon’s mom, Mary); Brian Posehn (Bert); and Will Wheaton (himself). ...Read more

Harry Anderson, Judge On ‘Night Court,’ Dies At His N.C. Home At 65

Harry Anderson, an actor and magician featured on the TV shows Night Court, Dave’s World and Cheers died Monday morning at age 65. Police in Asheville, N.C., say officers responded to a call at Anderson’s home and found him deceased. No foul play is suspected in his death. A Rhode Island native, Anderson gained fame as a stand-up comic, appearing on Saturday Night Live before he was cast on Cheers. His best-known role was playing Judge Harry T. Stone on the sitcom Night Court, which aired nine seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1992. The Associated Press said Anderson left Hollywood and resurfaced as the owner of a New Orleans magic shop, and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he moved to Asheville.
Anderson is survived by his wife Elizabeth and two children. ...Read more

Starbucks CEO Apologizes For Arrests Of Two Black Men At Philadelphia Store As Protests Mount

Starbucks Corporation’s Chief Executive Kevin Johnson hopes to meet with the two black men arrested at one of its Philadelphia cafes last week to apologize for the incident, which has sparked accusations of racial profiling at the coffee chain. “The circumstances surrounding the incident and the outcome in our store on Thursday were reprehensible … they were wrong,” Johnson said on Monday, amid protests and calls for a boycott on social media. The 2 men had not made a purchase, but were handcuffed and arrested for trespassing on Thursday after a store manager called 911 and reported them for refusing to leave. Witnesses said the men were calmly sitting in the cafe and in a widely viewed video, some patrons asked police whether they were targeted because they are black. Police released the men, who were not charged. The female manager who reported the men to police has left the company, a Starbucks representative said. ...Read more

Fox News’ Sean Hannity Was Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen’s Mystery Client

U.S. President Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen revealed in court that Fox News host Sean Hannity was one of his clients, this after a federal judge overruled his effort to withhold the client’s identity. Cohen was in court on Monday to ask a judge to limit the ability of federal prosecutors to review documents seized from him last week through a warrant as part of a criminal investigation. Cohen argued that some of the seized documents are protected by attorney-client privilege or otherwise unconnected to the investigation. “I understand if he doesn’t want his name out there, but that’s not enough under the law,” Wood said, before ordering a lawyer for Cohen to disclose the name.
