Alabama Senate Election: Doug Jones Wins In Major Upset, Roy Moore Won’t Yet Concede

Democrat Doug Jones has pulled off a major upset in Alabama by defeating Republican Roy Moore in Tuesday’s special election, becoming the first Democrat to win election to the Senate from the deeply conservative state in 25 years. “We have come so far and the people of Alabama have spoken,” Jones said during a victory speech in Birmingham late Tuesday. But in a late-night speech to supporters, Moore refused to concede. Moore told the crowd that when the “vote is this close…it’s not over.” With 100 percent of precincts reporting, Jones had 49.9 percent to Moore’s 48.4 percent. ...Read more

Senator Kirsten Gillibrand Calls President Trump’s Tweet A “Sexist Smear”

U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand fired back at President Donald Trump on Tuesday, saying she would not be silenced after he attacked her on Twitter. After Gillibrand called for an investigation into accusations of sexual harassment and misconduct against him, Trump attacked the Senator in a tweet which implied Gillibrand would do just about anything for money, prompting a swift and immediate backlash. Gillibrand replied directly to Trump on Twitter: “you cannot silence me or the millions of women who have gotten off the sidelines to speak out about the unfitness and shame you have brought to the Oval Office.”  And at a news conference later on Tuesday, Gillibrand called Trump’s tweet “a sexist smear attempting to silence my voice.” ...Read more

NFL Network Suspends Three Former Players After Sexual-Harassment Allegations

The NFL Network has suspended three members of its on-air team, former NFL players Marshall Faulk, Heath Evans and Ike Taylor, in response to allegations of sexual harassment made in a lawsuit by a former employee. Former wardrobe stylist Jami Cantor detailed several sexually inappropriate encounters with the trio, and others who have worked for the NFL Network, according to court documents.  Former NFL Network executive Eric Weinberger and former NFL Network analyst Donovan McNabb are also among those named in the suit.  ...Read more

Devin Hester Announces Retirement From NFL

Devin Hester, the NFL’s career leader in combined kickoff and punt returns for touchdowns, announced his retirement via Twitter on Tuesday. Hester, 35, finishes his career with 14 punt returns for touchdowns — also the best in NFL history — and five TDs on kickoff returns. Considered the best return man in the NFL for many years, Hester made four Pro Bowls and was first-team All-Pro three times. In his Twitter post, Hester said: “I have good news and bad news. Good news: Commissioner Goodell, you can put the kickoff back at the 30. Bad news: Y’all will have to find a new favorite returner.” ...Read more

Jimmy Kimmel returned to his late-night talk show Monday night with son Billy in tow to provide an update on his son’s health, and to once again call on Congress to fully fund the Children’s Health Insurance Program (CHIP).  Kimmel thanked the doctors and nurses at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles before making an impassioned plea for healthcare. Congratulations are in order for Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson and girlfriend Lauren Hashian, who are expecting their second child together. The former WWE wrestler turned Hollywood actor announced the news on Instagram. After making the announcement on social media, Johnson and Hashian walked the red carpet at the Los Angeles premiere of his movie Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle on Monday night. Three Female Accusers Call For Congress To Investigate President Trump For Sexual Harassment

Three women who have accused President Trump of sexual misconduct detailed their allegations at a press conference Monday and demanded a congressional investigation to hold him accountable. Samantha Holvey, Rachel Crooks and Jessica Leeds appeared at a press conference Monday with Robert Greenwald, the founder of Brave New Films. A video the film company produced was shown before the press conference began, which included testimonials from 16 women who have alleged President Trump had sexually harassed them. NYC Port Authority Terror Attacker Linked To ISIS, Officials Say

An ISIS-inspired terrorist with a crude bomb strapped to his chest injured three people and himself and caused panic inside a busy Midtown subway station Monday morning in the latest terror attack on New York City. The suspect, Akayed Ullah, detonated an “improvised, low-tech explosive device,” similar to a pipe bomb, at 7:20 a.m. as he walked in a pedestrian tunnel underneath 42nd Street. Ullah, 27, of Flatlands, Brooklyn, was in custody at Bellevue Hospital Monday where he’s being treated for serious injuries including burns and wounds, officials said. Jack Morris And Alan Trammell Elected To Baseball Hall Of Fame

Former Tigers Jack Morris and Alan Trammell were both elected to the Baseball Hall of Fame by the the Modern Era Committee, MLB announced Sunday. Morris, a pitcher, and Trammell, a shortstop, both failed to gain entry during their 15 years on the regular ballot. In balloting by the 16-member Modern Era panel, with 12 votes needed for election, Morris got 14 votes and Trammell received 13. “I’m so proud that Jack and I will be going in together,” Trammell said. Morris added, “I can’t think of a better scenario to go in with a former teammate and a guy that I respect and love so much, and I know it’s going to be good day.” ...Read more
