Jimmy Garoppolo And The 49ers Agree To 5-Year, $137.5 Million Contract

On Thursday, quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo and the San Francisco 49ers agreed to a deal for a five-year, $137.5 million contract, including $74 million in guarantees. The 26-year-old quarterback with seven career starts is now the NFL’s highest-paid player in terms of average annual salary. His $27.5 million per season, on average, is $500,000 more than the Lions’ Matthew Stafford. Garoppolo was traded from New England to San Francisco in late October and all it took was a second-round pick. And after a month of learning the 49ers offense, Garoppolo took over the starting job in Week 13 and proceeded to win five straight games. He took a team that was 1-10 at that point and led them to a 6-10 finish.   ...Read more

Cleveland Cavaliers Trade Dwyane Wade To Miami Heat For Second-Round Pick

The Cleveland Cavaliers have sent 12-time All Star and three-time NBA champion Dwyane Wade to the Miami Heat, where he has played the majority of his NBA career. In return, the Cavaliers will receive a second round pick that will be sent to Sacramento as part of an earlier trade. Wade, who just turned 36, spent his first 13 seasons in Miami, where he became the Heat’s all-time leader in points, assists, steals, minutes and games played. He led the Heat to its first-ever championship in 2006 and then added two more rings in 2012 and 2013.  This year in Cleveland, he was averaging 11.2 points per game in 23.2 minutes per game coming off the bench, both career lows.  Wade should be able to provide an offense boost for the team, who is 28th in the league in points per game and 24th in points per possession. He’ll also serve as a valuable veteran presence for the Heat’s roster of young players. ...Read more

YouTube Star Kian Lawley Loses Movie Gig After Racist Comments Surface

YouTube star Kian Lawley will not appear in the upcoming adaptation of bestselling young adult novel “The Hate U Give” after a video of Lawley making racist statements began making rounds online. “Due to the controversy surrounding his past comments and behavior, Kian Lawley will no longer appear in ‘The Hate U Give,'” a spokesperson for Twentieth Century Fox Films said in a statement. Lawley was cast in “The Hate U Give,” based on the Angela Thomas novel, late last year.  An undated video of Lawley making racist remarks was uploaded late last month and drew enough attention to prompt a response from Lawley two days ago, before he was let go from the film. Following news that he would be replaced in the movie, Lawley said, “I respect Fox’s decision to recast this role for ‘The Hate U Give’ as it is an important story, and it would not be appropriate for me to be involved considering the actions of my past.  With that being said, I am fully aware of the mistakes I have made and strive every day to become a better me than I was yesterday,” he said. ...Read more

Yankees Acquire Seahawks QB Russell Wilson For Future Considerations

The New York Yankees have acquired Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson in a trade with the Texas Rangers in exchange for future considerations. MRI Reveals Torn ACL For Knicks’ All-Star Kristaps Porzingis

The New York Knicks took on the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday night, and Kristaps Porzingis went down with a knee injury on a dunk on Bucks’ star Giannis Antetokounmpo. After initially needing help to the locker room and walking it off on his way out of the arena, an MRI has revealed that Porzingis has a torn ACL. Porzingis is already scheduling season-ending surgery on his torn ACL and will have a timeline for his return post-op. This will mark a very unfortunate end to what would’ve been his first year an NBA All-Star. White House Aide Rob Porter Resigns Amid Ex-Wives’ Abuse Allegations

A top aide to President Trump has resigned amid allegations of abusive behavior from his two ex-wives. White House staff secretary Rob Porter had been accused in multiple media reports published earlier in the week of choking and dragging his wives. Although White House aides had defended Porter in statements to the media, Porter submitted his resignation on Wednesday as scrutiny of his past relationships intensified.  “He is going to be leaving the White House. Big Budget Deal In Senate Hailed As ‘Genuine Breakthrough’

Senate leaders announced Wednesday they have sealed agreement on a two-year budget pact that would provide both the Pentagon and domestic programs with almost $300 billion above existing limits. The agreement is likely to be added to a stopgap spending bill that passed the House on Tuesday, aimed at averting a government shutdown Thursday at midnight. Democratic leader Chuck Schumer of New York called the Senate agreement “a genuine breakthrough.” However, it would not resolve the plight of immigrant “Dreamers” who face deportation after being brought to the U.S. illegally as children. Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi of California held the floor in the House, declaring she would oppose the measure unless her chamber’s GOP leaders promised a vote on legislation to protect the younger immigrants.  ...Read more
