NFL And Video Game Sensation “Fortnite” Partners For Huge Deal

The NFL announced Monday that it struck a deal with Epic Games, the maker of the popular game Fortnite. Now the players of the game will be able to outfit their characters in NFL jerseys. Brian Rolapp, chief media and business officer for the NFL, said in a statement, “we see the popularity of Fortnite every day at the NFL as many of our players are passionate about the game.  Now with the new agreement, fans can purchase a jersey of any of the 32 NFL teams and add a number to it from 1-99. The jersey is purchased in the Battle Royale store inside the game using virtual bucks (which is equivalent to about $15 in real money,) and players can have up to eight NFL jerseys in his/her locker. Epic Games also announced it had raised $1.25 billion that would give the game’s producer a value of nearly $15 billion. Those who are parts of the sports world, who were part of the raise, include Washington Capitals and Wizards owner Ted Leonsis, Golden State Warriors co-owner Peter Guber and Charlotte Hornets owner Michael Jordan. ...Read more

Newlyweds Die In Helicopter Crash, Right After Leaving Their Wedding

Authorities say that a newlywed couple from Texas died after the helicopter carrying them from their wedding crashed into the side of a mountain in Uvalde, Texas. Uvalde is in northwest Uvalde County, about 100 miles west of San Antonio. Will Byler and Bailee Ackerman Byler were married just before the fatal crash on Saturday evening at the Byler family ranch, just before departing on the helicopter in front of family and friends. The couple – both seniors from Sam Houston State University – were on the way to their honeymoon in San Antonio when their helicopter crashed into the mountain, according to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department. Authorities were notified of the crash just after midnight on Sunday morning, but rescue crews were unable to reach the helicopter overnight because of the difficult terrain and “pitch dark” conditions. The helicopter crashed about five to 10 minutes after it took off, said Craig Hatch, an air safety investigator with the National Transportation Safety Board.  ...Read more

U.S. Networks Drop ‘Racist’ Trump Ads As Election Day Approaches

NBC, Fox News and Facebook all pulled ads by President Donald Trump’s campaign that critics had labeled racist; this coming the day before election day as a fight for control of the U.S. Congress will play out. The 30-second ad, sponsored by Trump’s 2020 re-election campaign, featured courtroom video of an illegal immigrant from Mexico convicted in the 2014 killings of two police officers, juxtaposed with scenes of migrants headed through Mexico. ...Read more

Demi Lovato Spotted Out Of Rehab 3 Months After Overdose

More than three months after she was hospitalized due to an apparent drug overdose, singer Demi Lovato is reportedly out of rehab and was spotted out to dinner in Los Angeles over the weekend. Lovato was seen dining with designer Henri Alexander Levy on Saturday night, and she also was recently been seen by fans at a Beverly Hills spa and at Universal Studio’s Halloween Horror Nights. In photos posted by TMZ, Lovato is seen smiling at Levy and holding his hand across the table at the popular celebrity eatery Matsuhisa. Lovato’s stay in rehab had been expected to extend for several months, according to sources. Back in July, Lovato was found unconscious in her Hollywood Hills home in July after a near-fatal overdose. She entered a treatment facility, her third rehab stint, following a two-week hospital stay. ...Read more

The Spice Girls — consisting of Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton, Geri “Ginger Spice” Halliwell Horner, Melanie “Mel C” Chisholm and Melanie “Mel B” Brown — announced their United Kingdom reunion tour Monday, on the official Spice Girls Twitter account. The four ladies appeared in the video without Victoria “Posh Spice” Beckham, in a video spoof that announced news of the tour. The foursome will be joined by a special guest, singer Jess Glynne. The Spice Girls officially split in 1998 after becoming one of the UK’s biggest girl groups ever. Tickets are scheduled to go on sale Saturday at 5:30 a.m. ET. ...Read more

Major League Baseball has revealed the winners for the 2018 Gold Gloves. A player at each position in each league wins, and this year there was a tie at first base in the National League, totaling 19 winners in all. Just a week after winning the World Series, the Boston Red Sox had the most winning players in the American League, with right fielder Mookie Betts, center fielder Jackie Bradley Jr. and second baseman Ian Kinsler receiving honors. The National League’s Gold Glove winners featured the tie at first base, with the honor going to both the Atlanta Braves’ Freddie Freeman and Chicago Cubs’ Anthony Rizzo. Floyd Mayweather Jr. To Fight Kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa In New Year’s Eve Match In Japan

Floyd Mayweather Jr. announced his plans to fight Japanese kickboxer Tenshin Nasukawa on Dec. 31 in Saitama, north of Tokyo. The 41-year-old Mayweather is 50-0 in his boxing career but has never fought professionally under MMA rules. He did, however, have a huge win in a boxing match against MMA fighter Conor McGregor last year. 20-year-old Nasukawa, speaking at a news conference alongside Mayweather, called it “probably the biggest event of my life so far” and also vowed to end Mayweather’s long string of victories. Utah Mayor Brent Taylor Killed While Serving In Afghanistan

Officials said on Sunday that a Utah mayor serving in Afghanistan was killed and another service member was wounded in an apparent “insider attack.” Maj. Gen. Jeff Burton, Utah’s adjutant general, said at a news conference Sunday afternoon that North Ogden Mayor Brent Taylor — a major in the Utah National Guard — was killed in the apparent insider attack while serving with his unit in Kabul on Saturday. Burton said Taylor, 39, was “a man of excellence” and an “amazing human being” who was killed while serving in his fourth deployment. Taylor announced on Facebook in January that he was embarking on a one-year deployment to Afghanistan as part of an advisory team training the staff of an Afghan commando battalion. “Serving as mayor of North Ogden city has been one of the greatest honors of my life and the highlight of my civilian professional career,” he said. Taylor became mayor in 2013 after having served on North Ogden’s City Council. He leaves behind a wife and seven children. ...Read more

Florida Yoga Studio Mass Shooting Leaves Two Dead, Five Injured

On Friday a gunman killed two people and wounded five at a yoga studio in Tallahassee, FL, before killing himself, police said. No motive for the shootings has been established. A worse tragedy might have been averted thanks to the quick actions of an unidentified man who charged the shooter and the momentary distraction caused the shooter to break off his attack and apparently commit suicide. In a video posted on the Tallahassee police department’s Facebook page, police Chief Michael DeLeo confirmed that the suspect died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound. No other suspects are believed to be involved in the incident.

Legendary singer Andrea Bocelli has debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 for the first time with his latest studio album Si. The album moved 126,000 equivalent album units in its first week, with 123,000 of those being traditional album sales. This is Bocelli’s first No. 1 album, and his 26th studio album overall. It’s more than 20 years since his first time making his debut on the charts with Romanza in 1997, and it’s also his largest sales week since 2009.
