Gunman Kills 4 Child Hostages And Himself After Florida Standoff

After a standoff of more than 21 hours, officers entered an apartment where a felon with a gun had barricaded himself with four children and found them all dead, a police chief said. Orlando Police Chief John Mina said at a news conference just before midnight Monday that Gary Wayne Lindsey, 35, was found dead in a closet when officers entered the apartment around 9 p.m. The children with Lindsey ranged in age from 1 to 11. Two of them were Lindsey’s and two were his girlfriend’s, officers said. A police spokeswoman said Tuesday that the medical examiner, as part of an investigation, would determine when the children were killed.  Court records show Lindsey had an extensive criminal history involving arson, battery and theft. FBI Agent Whose Gun Went Off While Dancing In Nightclub Taken Into Custody

An off-duty FBI agent who accidentally fired a gun that dropped out of its holster while he was doing a back-flip at a nightclub was booked into custody on Tuesday. Chase Bishop, 29, was being held in a detention center in downtown Denver. He faces charges for second-degree assault but he has not been formally charged. Denver police have said Bishop was dancing at a nightclub in the early hours of June 2 when the gun fell from his waistband holster and hit the floor. When he went to grab it, the gun went off and wounded a man who was taken to a hospital, where he was listed in good condition. Broncos LB Shane Ray To Have Wrist Surgery; Expected To Be Out 2-3 Months

Denver Broncos linebacker Shane Ray is reportedly set to undergo wrist surgery later this week in Houston. It would be the three-year veteran’s fourth operation on his wrist. Ray initially injured his left wrist during training camp last year and did not take the field until Week 8 after requiring multiple procedures. It was reported earlier this month that the 25-year-old linebacker sat out part of organized team activities due to discomfort in the wrist. The 6’3″, 245-pound linebacker had just one sack and 16 combined tackles in eight games last year. Olympic Skier Bode Miller Mourning Death Of 19-Month-Old Daughter Who Drowned In Pool

Bode Miller’s 19-month-old daughter, Emeline Miller, drowned in a swimming pool at an Orange County, Calif., home over the weekend. The Associated Press reported that paramedics unsuccessfully attempted to resuscitate the child before rushing her to a Southern California hospital, where she was pronounced dead on Sunday. The drowning incident reportedly occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Saturday night at a home in Coto de Caza.  Miller, 40, confirmed the news reports on Monday night with an Instagram post.  Emeline was Miller’s fourth child — his second with wife Morgan Miller, a pro beach volleyball player and model who he married in 2012. ‘America’s Got Talent’ Winner Neal E. Boyd Dead At 42

“America’s Got Talent” 2008 winner Neal E. Boyd has passed away at the age of 42. Boyd died from heart failure at his mother’s home in Missouri on Sunday. According to multiple reports, Boyd’s mother found him unresponsive and called for help. He was pronounced dead after EMS arrived. No autopsy was done, according to the county coroner. The opera singer suffered from a health condition related to his heart. He also suffered from liver disease and kidney failure.  Boyd developed a passion for opera music when he was in middle school. In 2009, after coming out on top on America’s Got Talent, Boyd released his debut album, “My American Dream.” The album debuted at number three on the Top Classical Albums chart. ...Read more

Jackson Odell, Actor On ‘The Goldbergs,’ Is Found Dead At Age 20

Jackson Odell, an actor and aspiring singer best known for appearing in the ABC sitcom “The Goldbergs,” died Friday at age 20. The coroner’s office said that the actor was found unresponsive on Friday in his room at a sober-living facility in the Tarzana neighborhood of Los Angeles, where he had been living. He had failed to attend a meeting that day. “The Odell family has lost our beloved son and brother,” Mr. Odell’s family said in a statement posted to his website. “He will always be a shining light and a brilliant, loving and talented soul. He had so much more to share.” Mr. Odell appeared as Ari Caldwell in several seasons of “The Goldbergs,” about a family in the 1980s, as well as on episodes of “Arrested Development” and “Modern Family.” An autopsy is pending to determine the cause of death, a spokesman for the coroner’s office said.  ...Read more

New York Mets Release Veteran First Baseman Adrian Gonzalez

The New York Mets have released veteran first baseman Adrian Gonzalez. The Mets made the announcement of Gonzalez’s release after a 2-0 win against the New York Yankees Sunday at Citi Field in Queens. Gonzalez, 36, hit .237 with six home runs and 26 RBI in 54 games this season for the Mets. He signed with the team in January as a free agent. The 15-year veteran owns a career .287 batting average. He has 317 career home runs. Gonzalez has played with the Florida Marlins, Texas Rangers, San Diego Padres, Boston Red Sox, Braves and Los Angeles Dodgers, before joining the Mets this offseason. ...Read more

Detroit Pistons Hire Dwayne Casey As New Head Coach

The Detroit Pistons have hired ex-Toronto Raptors head coach Dwane Casey as their new head coach. According to ESPN, Casey was signed to a 5-year-old deal on Monday. Casey has been the head coach of the Toronto Raptors for the last seven seasons, leading them to a winning record every year since 2013. They have also made the playoffs in that same time period, making it to the conference semi finals for the past three seasons. Prior to joining the Raptors, Casey twice coached alongside Trail Blazers Head Coach Terry Stotts. The Pistons will be looking to comback from a 39-43 record in 2017-18. U.S. Sanctions Russians Over Military And Intelligence Hacking

The U.S. Treasury imposed sanctions on three Russian individuals and five companies on Monday, saying they had worked with Moscow’s military and intelligence services on ways to conduct cyber attacks against the United States and its allies. The designation blocks all property of those targeted that is subject to U.S. jurisdiction and prohibits American citizens from engaging in transactions with them. In a statement, Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said “The United States is engaged in an ongoing effort to counter malicious actors working at the behest of the Russian Federation and its military and intelligence units to increase Russia’s offensive cyber capabilities.” ...Read more

Supreme Court Sides With Ohio’s Voter-Purge Law

The Supreme Court ruled Monday that Ohio’s law for removing voters from registration rolls does not violate federal laws to protect people who simply choose not to vote. In a 5-4 opinion that split the conservative and liberal justices ans written by Justice Samuel A. Alito Jr.,  the court rejected arguments in a case from Ohio that the practice violates a federal law intended to increase the ranks of registered voters. A handful of other states also use voters’ inactivity to trigger a process that could lead to their removal from the voting rolls. Justice Alito said for the court that Ohio is complying with the 1993 National Voter Registration Act. He was joined by his four conservative colleagues.
