Steven Spielberg Is The First Director To Cross $10 Billion Worldwide

Steven Spielberg has just made history, becoming the first director to see the gross of his movies exceed $10 billion worldwide. After three weeks in theaters, Ready Player One has earned $114.9 million in the U.S., bringing its global total to $475.1 million. 1993’s Jurassic Park remains Spielberg’s biggest commercial success ($984 million) and other smash hits include 2008’s Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull ($787 million) and 1983’s E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial ($717 million) have garnered Spielberg this honor. Meanwhile the 71-year old Spielberg shows no signs of slowing down, as the filmmaker is currently developing a West Side Story remake and has a fifth Indiana Jones adventure film in the works. ...Read more

‘Big Bang Theory’ Enlists Mark Hamill, Kathy Bates For Wedding-Themed Season 11 Finale

CBS’ The Big Bang Theory is creating an impressive guest list for its wedding-themed season 11 finale, when Sheldon and Amy tie the knot. The May 11 season ender will focus on the marriage between Sheldon (Jim Parsons) and Amy (Mayim Bialik) and feature a roster of new and returning faces to the long-running series. Among the famous faces set to be in attendance for the nuptials are Star Wars’ Mark Hamill, Kathy Bates, Lauren Lapkus, Jerry O’Connell (as Sheldon’s brother, Georgie); and comedian Teller. It’s unclear if Hamill will play himself, though given how much Sheldon loves Star Wars it is a safe bet.  Returning favorites who received an invitation to return include John Ross Bowie (as frenemy Barry Kripke); Courtney Henggeler (Sheldon’s sister, Missy); previously announced Laurie Metcalf (Sheldon’s mom, Mary); Brian Posehn (Bert); and Will Wheaton (himself). ...Read more

Harry Anderson, Judge On ‘Night Court,’ Dies At His N.C. Home At 65

Harry Anderson, an actor and magician featured on the TV shows Night Court, Dave’s World and Cheers died Monday morning at age 65. Police in Asheville, N.C., say officers responded to a call at Anderson’s home and found him deceased. No foul play is suspected in his death. A Rhode Island native, Anderson gained fame as a stand-up comic, appearing on Saturday Night Live before he was cast on Cheers. His best-known role was playing Judge Harry T. Stone on the sitcom Night Court, which aired nine seasons on NBC from 1984 to 1992. The Associated Press said Anderson left Hollywood and resurfaced as the owner of a New Orleans magic shop, and after Hurricane Katrina in 2005, he moved to Asheville.
Anderson is survived by his wife Elizabeth and two children. ...Read more

Starbucks CEO Apologizes For Arrests Of Two Black Men At Philadelphia Store As Protests Mount

Starbucks Corporation’s Chief Executive Kevin Johnson hopes to meet with the two black men arrested at one of its Philadelphia cafes last week to apologize for the incident, which has sparked accusations of racial profiling at the coffee chain. “The circumstances surrounding the incident and the outcome in our store on Thursday were reprehensible … they were wrong,” Johnson said on Monday, amid protests and calls for a boycott on social media. The 2 men had not made a purchase, but were handcuffed and arrested for trespassing on Thursday after a store manager called 911 and reported them for refusing to leave. Witnesses said the men were calmly sitting in the cafe and in a widely viewed video, some patrons asked police whether they were targeted because they are black. Police released the men, who were not charged. The female manager who reported the men to police has left the company, a Starbucks representative said. ...Read more

Fox News’ Sean Hannity Was Trump Lawyer Michael Cohen’s Mystery Client

U.S. President Donald Trump’s longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen revealed in court that Fox News host Sean Hannity was one of his clients, this after a federal judge overruled his effort to withhold the client’s identity. Cohen was in court on Monday to ask a judge to limit the ability of federal prosecutors to review documents seized from him last week through a warrant as part of a criminal investigation. Cohen argued that some of the seized documents are protected by attorney-client privilege or otherwise unconnected to the investigation. “I understand if he doesn’t want his name out there, but that’s not enough under the law,” Wood said, before ordering a lawyer for Cohen to disclose the name. Khloe Kardashian has named her baby girl True, the reality start announced Monday via Instagram, just days after she was born last Thursday. Kardashian wrote “Our little girl, True Thompson, has completely stolen our hearts and we are overwhelmed with LOVE. Such a blessing to welcome this angel into the family! Mommy and Daddy loooooove you True!”  Sisters Kim, Kourtney, mom Kris Jenner, and Khloe’s best friend, Malika Haqq, were in the delivery room with Khloe, while her boyfriend, Tristan Thompson, was spotted at the Cleveland area-hospital — amid reports this week that he allegedly cheated on Khloe with multiple women.   ...Read more

Veteran Steelers LB James Harrison Announces Retirement From The NFL

Longtime Pittsburgh Steelers linebacker James Harrison announced on Monday that he is retiring from the NFL. Harrison made the announcement via his Instagram account. “I’ve missed way too much for way too long…and I’m done. Many thanks to my family, coaches, the fans, and everyone who played a role in my football life,” he wrote in a caption. Harrison played 15 NFL seasons, 14 of them with Pittsburgh. He recorded 84.5 sacks throughout his career, and for a time was one of the most dominant pass-rushers in the NFL. Desiree Linden Becomes First American Woman To Win Boston Marathon Since 1985

Desiree Linden endured extreme weather conditions to win Monday’s Boston Marathon, becoming the first American woman to win the event since 1985. Enduring cold temperatures, brutal winds and a constant rain, Linden finished the 26-mile, hilly New England terrain in an unofficial time of 2:39:53.  Linden had four previous top 10 finishes in the Marathon, including missing out on the top spot by just two seconds in 2011.  ...Read more

Former First Lady Barbara Bush In Failing Health; Will Not Be Seeking Further Treatment

Former First Lady Barbara Bush is in failing health and will not seek additional medical care after a series of recent hospitalizations, a spokesman for the Bush family said on Sunday. Bush, 92, will “instead focus on comfort care” for unspecified health complications, according to a statement. Mrs. Bush is the wife of former President George H.W. Bush, the 41st president of the United States who is now 93, and mother of 43rd President George W. Bush. “It will not surprise those who know her that Barbara Bush has been a rock in the face of her failing health, worrying not for herself — thanks to her abiding faith — but for others,” a statement from the office of George H.W.
