President Trump Abruptly Calls Off Philadelphia Eagles Super Bowl Celebration At White House

President Trump abruptly called off the White House celebration honoring the Super Bowl-champion Philadelphia Eagles after nearly all of the players and coaches said they would boycott the visit. White House officials said that fewer than 10 members of the team were planning to attend the celebration on Tuesday afternoon on the South Lawn, despite weeks of planning for the event. When it became clear that most members of the team would not attend, Mr. Trump issued a blistering statement disinviting them. “The Philadelphia Eagles are unable to come to the White House with their full team to be celebrated tomorrow,” Mr. Trump said in a statement released Monday evening. “They disagree with their president because he insists that they proudly stand for the national anthem, hand on heart, in honor of the great men and women of our military and the people of our country.” ...Read more

Fashion Designer Kate Spade Found Dead In Her New York Apartment Of Apparent Suicide

Fashion designer Kate Spade was found dead in an apparent suicide her Manhattan apartment, according to NY law enforcement officials. She was 55. Spade’s body was discovered by her housekeeper at her Upper East Side apartment. The Associated Press reported that Spade left a note and was found with a red scarf around her neck attached to a doorknob. Spade, a world-famous designer, launched Kate Spade Handbags in 1993 with her husband Andy Spade and opened her first store in New York City in 1996. Spade is the sister-in-law of actor David Spade. Spade sold her company in 2007, a year after it was acquired from the Neiman Marcus Group for $125 million by the company then known as Liz Claiborne Inc. In 2017, Coach bought the brand for $2.4 billion. In 2016, she launched a new shoes and handbag line called Frances Valentine, named after her daughter. Spade is survived by her husband Andy and their daughter, Frances Beatrix Spade, 13.  ...Read more

Washington Capitals Take 3-1 Lead In Stanley Cup Final Against Golden Knights In Game 4

The Washington Capitals are one win away from winning the Stanley Cup Final for the first time ever. Washington beat the Vegas Golden Knights 6-2 in Game 4 of the Stanley Cup Final at Capital One Arena on Monday, with solid performances from goaltender Braden Holtby, goals from T.J. Oshie, Tom Wilson, Devante Smith-Pelly, John Carlson, Michal Kempny and Brett Connolly, and four assists from Evgeny Kuznetsov to move closer to winning the series. Bruce Springsteen To Perform At Reopening Of Historic Asbury Lanes

Bruce Springsteen will join Grammy-winning rock band Portugal. the Man next week in his hometown of Asbury Park, New Jersey for the reopening of concert venue Asbury Lanes. On Monday, June 18th, the event celebrates the renovation of Asbury’s bowling alley, newly outfitted as a music venue. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Boys and Girls Clubs of Monmouth County.  An online lottery via the Asbury Lanes website is available only to Asbury Park residents as part of the commitment to honor the local community. The lottery will accept entries until 8 a.m. Eastern Time on June 7th. Jimmy Fallon Surprises Parkland Seniors At Graduation Ceremony

Jimmy Fallon brought laughter to a somber graduation ceremony on Sunday honoring the 2018 class of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School. In a surprise speech, Fallon addressed 748 seniors, along with their families and friends during the commencement that honored four classmates who died in the Feb. 14 school shooting in Parkland, Florida. The school gave posthumous diplomas to Nicholas Dworet, Joaquin Oliver, Meadow Pollack and Carmen Schentrup. The degrees were accepted by family members. 17 students and educators were killed in the massacre.  At the graduation ceremony, Fallon referred to the time he spent meeting some of the students at the March For Our Lives rally (the gun control rally in March that Stoneman Douglas students organized in Washington and around the country following the attack) and he thanked the whole class for their courage and bravery.  “You are not just the future ― you are the present,” he said. “Keep changing the world. Janet Jackson Calls Police To Perform Welfare Check On 1-Year-Old Son Eissa While In The Care Of His Father

Janet Jackson called the police on Saturday to check on the welfare of her son Eissa Al Mana. The 17-month-old was with his father, Jackson’s estranged husband, Wissam Al Mana, at the Nobu hotel in Malibu, California, when Jackson called authorities around 10 p.m. on Saturday “Deputies were there [and] called to the scene. They decided the child was okay and they left,” according to sources. Jackson, 52, was not at the hotel at the time, authorities confirmed. Jackson was said to be worried Al Mana may have been using drugs around their son. “The concern was that his erratic behavior was tied to that,” a source said. However, the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s office said there “was zero suspicion of drugs being used,” and that the office was puzzled as to “why Jackson made the allegation.” ...Read more

Serena Williams Withdraws From French Open Before Maria Sharapova Match Due To Injury

Serena Williams withdrew from the French Open with a pectoral muscle injury, minutes before she was expected to take the court to face Maria Sharapova in Monday’s fourth round. Williams said the injury has worsened since she first felt it in her last singles match Saturday, saying “Right now I can’t actually serve. It’s kind of hard to play when I can’t physically serve.” Williams said she would get an MRI on Tuesday and “see as many specialists as I can” before determining whether she can play Wimbledon in four weeks. Williams was favored against the two-time French Open champion Sharapova, whom Williams has beaten 18 straight times since 2005. “It’s difficult because I love playing Maria,” Williams said. “It’s a match I always get up for. At Least 25 killed, 3,100 Evacuated After Guatemala Volcano Eruption

Villages hit by Guatemala’s Volcano of Fire on Monday were met with search and rescue teams, this coming after the volcano spewed lava, ash, rocks and deadly hot gas, killing at least 25 people. The Volcán de Fuego, or Volcano of Fire, began erupting ash and lava early Sunday, according to local reports. Fast-moving flows surprised communities that had not been ordered to evacuate. Ash spread through the sky as far as Guatemala City, some 40 miles away. More than 3,200 residents of communities near the volcano have been moved, and 48 people including have been treated at a nearby hospital, according to officials. Authorities expected the death toll to rise and warned of the possibility of further mudslides. ...Read more

Supreme Court Rules In Favor Of Baker Who Refused To Make Wedding Cake For Gay Couple

The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday handed a narrow victory to a Christian baker from Colorado who refused for religious reasons to make a wedding cake for a gay couple. In a 7-2 decision the Supreme Court faulted the Colorado Civil Rights Commission’s handling of the claims brought against Jack Phillips, saying it had showed a hostility to religion. In doing so, the commission violated his religious rights under the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. The court, however, did not issue a definitive ruling on the circumstances under which people can seek exemptions from anti-discrimination laws based on their religious views.  ...Read more

Warriors Take 2-0 Lead Against Cavaliers In NBA Finals

The Golden State Warriors have taken a 2-0 lead over the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals for the third straight season, with a 122-103 win. Stephen Curry finished with an NBA Finals record nine 3-pointers as he scored 33 points to lead the Warriors to victory. Kevin Durant added 26 points, nine rebounds and seven assists. The Cavs LeBron James had another strong game, finishing with 29 points, nine rebounds and 13 assists, but it wasn’t enough to give his team the win.  Game 3 is Wednesday night in Cleveland. ...Read more
