Los Angeles Angels Name Brad Ausmus As Their New Manager

Los Angeles Angels general manager Billy Eppler announced on Sunday the hiring of Brad Ausmus as the Angels’ new manager. Ausmus served as his special assistant last season and replaces Mike Scioscia, who left the club earlier this month after 19 seasons in charge. Scioscia is the winningest manager in franchise history. Ausmus is a former big league catcher who spent four seasons as the Detroit Tigers’ manager from 2014-17. Cincinnati Bengals Linebacker Vontaze Burfict Fined $112K For Illegal Hits Against Steelers

Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Vontaze Burfict was not suspended for two unnecessary roughness calls last week against the Pittsburgh Steelers, but he was just fined $112,000 by the NFL on Saturday. Burfict committed the personal fouls on hits against receiver Antonio Brown, and running back James Conner. Burfict, in his seventh season, is the most fined player in the NFL paying $415,637. He has now been fined 11 times. He has also been suspended six games, including a three-game ban after an illegal hit on Brown in a 2016 playoff game. ...Read more

Boston Red Sox Defeat Houston Astros To Win ALCS And Advance To World Series

Boston pitcher David Price shut out the Houston Astros for six innings Thursday night, taking the Red Sox to a 4-1 victory and clinching the pennant in Game 5 of the American League Championship Series.  33-year-old Price pitched on three days’ rest, and struck out nine, walked none and allowed three hits, with 65 of his 93 pitches going for strikes.  J.D. Martinez homered in the third inning off Astros pitcher Justin Verlander, pushing the Red Sox ahead, 1-0, and then third baseman Rafael Devers delivered a three-run HR to put Boston ahead 4-0.  Astros Marwin González hit a solo home run off Matt Barnes, who relieved Price in the seventh inning, but it wasn’t enough to come back against Boston. ...Read more

NBA G League To Offer $125K Contracts To Elite Prospects

The NBA “G League” is planning to offer an option to players who are not yet eligible for the NBA draft a chance to turn pro out of high school, in order to avoid the college “one-and-done” route. Players will be eligible to sign a “select contract” if they turn 18 by Sept. 15 prior to the season that they would spend in the G League. The league said on Thursday, that it is establishing a working group to identify players who could be offered the contract. The $125,000 contracts will be made available to elite prospects. Players are not eligible to enter the NBA draft until one year after high school. The G League contracts will start being available for the 2019-20 season. ...Read more

Search For Missing Wisconsin Teenager Jayme Closs Continues As FBI Asks For Help

On Thursday, authorities continued to search the area near the Wisconsin home where 13-year-old Jayme Closs vanished after her parents were murdered while she was inside, prompting a massive search that entered its fourth day yesterday. The Barron County Sheriff’s Department asked for 100 volunteers to meet at the intersection of State Highway 8 and 16th Street to help assist officers looking for Closs. Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald said Closs inside the home when her parents, James and Denise Closs, were shot and killed in a town about 80 miles northeast of Minneapolis, Minn.  Jayme has been ruled out as a suspect in her parents’ deaths, but was nowhere to be found when police arrived at the home just before 1 a.m. Monday. An Amber Alert and nationwide search has since ensued, with more than 400 tips pouring in, though no credible evidence has been discovered. President Trump Threatens To Send Military To Shut Border Over Caravan Of Central Americans Migrants

On Thursday, President Donald Trump threatened to deploy the military and close the southern U.S. border. This coming as more Hondurans and Salvadorans joined thousands of migrants in Guatemala headed north. Several thousand Honduran migrants traveled this week through Guatemala headed to Mexico, with some hoping to cross into the United States to escape violence and poverty in Central America. On Twitter, the President wrote, “I must, in the strongest of terms, ask Mexico to stop this onslaught – and if unable to do so I will call up the U.S. Military and CLOSE OUR SOUTHERN BORDER!” U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo prepared to travel later in the day to Panama and then Mexico City, where he was to meet with Mexican President Enrique Pena Nieto on Friday. Trump also threatened to halt aid if Central American governments did not act. In a string of tweets on Thursday, the President also said the issue was more important to him than the new trade deal with Mexico to replace the North American Free Trade Agreement pact. ...Read more

The official trailer for Narcos: Mexico was just released by Netfilx, and the new season is setting a different tone from the first three seasons of the drug cartel drama. Rogue One’s Diego Luna stars as crime boss Felix Gallardo for the new season, and Michael Pena stars as DEA agent Kiki Camarena. The drama is an ensemble tale of cops and cartels, but the primary focus is on two men: Gallardo, who united a collection of independent dealers, and DEA agent Camarena, the undercover operative determined to take him down. Netflix’s ‘Orange Is The New Black’ Will End After Season 7

“Orange Is the New Black” will be ending after it’s upcoming seventh season on Netflix. The cast of the series broke the news in a video post on Wednesday. The critically-acclaimed show initially followed the inmates of Litchfield Minimum Security Prison, with season six seeing many of the main cast move to the Maximum Security facility often mentioned in the series. Showrunner Jenji Kohan said “after seven seasons, it’s time to be released from prison. I will miss all the badass ladies of Litchfield and the incredible crew we’ve worked with. My heart is orange but fade to black.” The series was created by Kohan and based on the book of the same name by Piper Kerman, and has starred Taylor Schilling as Piper, along with Uzo Aduba, Kate Mulgrew, Laura Prepon, Laverne Cox, Dascha Polanco, Danielle Brooks, Selenis Leyva, Taryn Manning, Yael Stone, Jackie Cruz, Lea DeLaria, Adrienne C. The Los Angeles Dodgers are one win away from the World Series, having taken Game 5 from the Milwaukee Brewers with a 5-2 win. Dodgers starting pitcher Clayton Kershaw bounced back from a rough Game 1 outing to allow only one run allowed in seven innings. Yasiel Puig went 2-for-2 off the bench, including a clutch RBI single in the sixth inning, to help Los Angeles build a 3-2 lead in the Series The series now returns to Milwaukee for Game 6 on Friday.
