LEXINGTON, Ky. (August 12, 2019) – With Lexington expecting the temperature on Tuesday to be 95 and the heat index around 110, the city’s Division of Waste Management will adjust its regular waste collection window.
Commercial pickups will begin at 3 a.m. Tuesday, while residential pickups will start at 4 a.m. These times will reduce employees’ risk of heat-related injuries such as dehydration and other heat-related illnesses by finishing all routes before temperatures peak.
“Getting an early start will protect our employees by them not operating collection vehicles and servicing containers during the hottest time of the day,” said Tracey Thurman, Director of the Division of Waste Management.
Waste carts should be placed on the curb Monday night as usual to ensure collection.
