City of Lexington crews on duty

Lexington, Ky. (Dec. 5, 2018) – With the forecast of light snow in the evening and overnight hours, City crews will once again be out. Staff from Streets & Roads and Water Quality will be treating hills, bridges and overpasses as necessary as well as responding to any calls for slick spots. Additional staff will be brought in if the weather warrants a larger response.

Drivers are reminded that some roadways could be slick on their morning commute. Motorists should drive with caution and reduced speed, as well as leave extra space between vehicles should they need to stop quickly. Be especially careful on bridges and overpasses as they are typically the first driving surfaces to get slick.

The Office of Homelessness Prevention & Intervention Weather Plan remains in effect until Monday, Dec. 10. The plan includes expanded shelter services and free transportation to shelters. Anyone needing assistance can dial 2-1-1 or text their zip code to 898211. For a list of all available shelters and transportation services, as well as other resources, visit uwbg211.org.

Residents can get information on accidents, lane blockages, snow-and-ice trouble spots and road closures through the city’s Twitter accounts (@lexwrecks and @lexkypolice). They can also view traffic at major intersection in real time through the city’s traffic cameras at lexingtonky.gov/traffic.

The city’s snow removal plan with street and sidewalk rankings is available at lexingtonky.gov/snow. Get the latest on city snow removal, closings and more at lexingtonky.gov/snowupdates.
