Mixed precipitation keeps city crews busy throughout the day

LEXINGTON, Ky. (March 24, 2018) – City crews worked throughout the day treating ranked roads per the city’s snow plan to protect against freezing. The night shift will report at 8 p.m. to continue any needed treatment and to respond to weather-related service calls.

Between midnight and 4:30 p.m., the Lexington Police Department responded to eight injury collisions, 65 non-injury collisions and 30 motorist assists.

Temperatures are expected to hover around freezing overnight. Remember that the transition from snow to rain could result in slushy or slick conditions on sidewalks, parking lots or other untreated surfaces. Ponding on roadways is also a possibility. Drivers are reminded to slow down and increase their braking distance.

And while roadways in Lexington are in good condition, motorists who will be traveling to other parts of the state are reminded they can get traffic and roadway information through the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet’s website.

Information on accidents, lane blockages, snow-and-ice trouble spots and road closures is available through the city’s Twitter accounts (@lexwrecks and @lexkypolice). Citizens can view traffic at major intersection in real time through the city’s traffic cameras at www.lexingtonky.gov/traffic.
