Parking, Downtown Traffic Busy for Ali Memorial Service Friday

No parking downtown for Friday service at KFC Yum Center

 

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (June 7, 2016) – Due to regular work day business parking and the anticipated crowd attending the Memorial Service for Muhammad Ali, there is no parking availability for ticket holders within two miles of the KFC Yum! Center.

There will be two ways to access the Memorial Service if not walking from a downtown hotel and both will be FREE for ticket holders.

PARKING/SHUTTLE SERVICE

Complimentary parking and a complimentary shuttle service has been made available at the Kentucky Exposition Center EXCLUSIVELY FOR TICKET HOLDERS.

Patron parking will be available beginning at 7:30 AM.  Shuttles from the Kentucky Expo Center to the KFC YUM! Center will begin running at 8:30 AM with continuous service through 11:30 a.m. TICKETS TO THE MEMORIAL SERVICE MUST BE PRESENTED TO BOARD THE DOWNTOWN SHUTTLE.   

Cars can enter the Kentucky Expo Center via all gates; parking attendants will provide direction to available spaces. Shuttle pick up location is the North Wing Lobby – located just to the right of Freedom Hall.

Upon conclusion of the memorial service, return shuttle service will be provided beginning at 4:30 p.m. and continuing through 8:30 p.m. TICKETS TO THE MEMORIAL SERVICE MUST BE PRESENTED TO BOARD SHUTTLE FOR THE RETURN ROUTE.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION

TARC is providing free rides on all routes on Friday to passengers with tickets to attend the Muhammad Ali Memorial Service at the KFC YUM! Center. 

More than a dozen TARC routes throughout the Louisville metropolitan area stop within a few blocks of the KFC Yum! Center downtown where the service is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

The most direct and frequent service routes for the event are #4-Fourth Street, which connects south Louisville and downtown, and #18-Dixie and Preston Highways which travels south on Dixie Highway to Valley Station and south on Preston Highway to Outer Loop.   West Louisville neighborhoods can access downtown form several route options including #15-Market Street and #19-Muhammad Ali, which also travels east on Frankfort Ave. and Shelbyville Road.  The #17/40-Bardstown Rd.-Taylorsville Rd. is another option from east of downtown.  Cross-river routes #72-Clarksville and #71-New Albany, Louisville, Jeffersonville, also stop downtown near the KFC YUM! Center.

Because of traffic congestion and possible road closures, passengers are also advised to be patient as delays are anticipated at times, and detours may be in effect on short notice.
